Hopefully with continued improvement Soldo will be ahead of Hampson in the pecking order when both fit.

He’s not going to be an injury prone crock, he’s gunna start taking contested marks, he’s gunna kick goals, he’s gunna tackle hard.....

The article even quotes Balme saying: "We’ve got to be careful with his ground ball stuff, just to make sure we don't put too much stress on him". WTF?

Was just about to post the same Tony BH.

What's the point of a ruckman, when the ball hits the ground , to have no influence?

This is where Nank , even though may not get the HO, what he does after that showed his true value to the team.

Becomes a midfield option, link man and weapon going forward. And can kick a goal!

For mine Hampson is an insurance for Soldo, even though Soldo still has a way to go in challenging Nank.

I understand but the game has well and truly gone past having a player on the field who's a 1-trick-pony ( HOTA) then just becomes a liability.

Yep, I think we proved last year that a second ruckman is an endangered species. Having Hammer in the team with Nank would definitely be a step backwards. Hammer brings nothing to the team but hit outs. When Nank was resting during the GF, and Grigg was in the ruck, we dominated clearances.

If Nank went down, I wouldn't replace him with Hammer, I'd put someone with agility in like Callum Moore as an old style follower, and tell him not to worry about tap outs, but to compete especially when the ball is on the ground. As tigertim said, need more than a one trick pony in modern footy.

i don't think its bizarre at all. The Nank is mobile but is not a tap ruckman. I reckon he's a lot like Ivan tbh. I have bagged Hammer more than most over the years, but one thing he can provide is a better than even contest at stoppages. So in the off chance both play in the same team (which I think is a good chance at times during the season), you would have to play Hammer at the stoppages ahead of the Nank.

Nank was a borderline A grade ruck by the end of the year. Hampson so many grades below i need Tim to put it into better words.

Hammer seems limited, but I thought Towner was limited too.

Theres no harm in having blokes fit.

I'd like to see Bolton in the ruck.
Standing on Sandilands head, roving his own taps and running into open goals like K.B.
There is nothing he cannot do.
Hampson? Pffffffffffffttttttttttt

Given his age and serious injuries, it is hard to see him get back to at least his previous level. Chances of him getting better would be very low.

IMO this is just smoke & mirrors. Be very surprised if we're serious about playing Hammer now. In case of emergency break glass only.
This^

I will be very surprised if our structure isn't the same as last year.

If it ain't broke....

We're trying to get him to 100 games for the Tiges so that we can get his kids under father son/daughter rule. Only 65 games to go.......

His *smile*!

Pending the on this year's style of play, I feel Shaun will need get on the park, otherwise next year's play will be a tall effective forward come ruckman as "Nank" can not carry the ruck 3 yrs running by himself.
