Well, so what then? We won CLRs and HOs today, but were pantsed for most of the game it appears. Less Ds by 97! Down by 50+ pts at stages.

Unless you talk up the final margin, but Buckley claims they were just trying a few things for the last 40 minutes or so. Unable to watch the game, so hard to interpret much, except a lot of negative posts.
My humble suggestion is that you don't raise win-loss ratios as a defense of the Hampster, you will be disappointed.

You have to complement Leon for his unwavering continued and steadfast support for Hampson. He obviously believes in him so no problem with that. That the vast majority of posters see Hampson's performance differently doesn't matter. However using stats to prove how good a player is can be erroneous. Hampson may get plenty of taps but a limited number are truly productive. Similarly we could say that BEllis is a top class player if you go by his stats but we can see that many of his disposals are not to advantage or straight turnovers.
That's not to say neither can play footy much better than most if not all posters but both have limitations that stats disguise.

I'm not just sure ... certain, because he played 20 AFL games in 2016 and won or broke even in 12 games. What about your record? See Inside Football PRs:
How can you be certain when you haven't seen jb play?

I've seen him play and in his day was a better mark than Hampson.

can this thread be put on the LTIL?
not until we reach a consensus on who was a better footballer: jb03 or Hampson.

Inquiring minds need to know.

Any photos for us to see? Are they same in size? ;D

I rate your judgement. No dispute at all from me. But are we allowed to know what comp/level that was at?

I'd take almost anything at this point.

I'm fine with that. I just like to question some of the group-think on here at times, pose questions. Maybe find more objectivity.

Real followers of the game know, if you look hard and long enough, every player has their flaws. Sometimes, only mental ones e.g G. Ablett S and T. Lockett.

Anyway should happen with Nank, Soldo and Chol threads to become far more prominent due to H's LTI.

Just can't help myself, here's another example.

My humble response is that you don't ascribe AFL wins merely to the efforts, or lack of, to just one player. Although individuals do make significant contributions to results, it is blatantly discernible to the vast majority of followers that teams win games. And that clearance teams of midfielders are responsible for winning clearances, or not. It is not solely up to the ruckman. On this point, it seems some views are welded in place. Thus, as polnted out, although Nankervis won both HOs and CLRs by numbers, did you notice we were still well beaten for most of the game (and hard to interpret value of 4thQ comeback).

But I rest my case. Think what you please.

Hate to see a player get injured but Hampson's injury could just be a blessing in disguise for us. Nankervis getting #1 ruck duties and a couple of those ruckmen youngsters looked very promising on the weekend.

Sometimes, the one person railing against common knowledge and wisdom, and finding themselves completely on their own, is doing so because they are the only truly objective, free thinking genius. The Galileo's and Plato's of the world.

Usually though, is because they are wrong. The 'holding your underpants firmly against your head while screaming vaguely poetic abuse at trees' people of the world.

Hampson got lucky last year, Ivan's decline and Ty and Griff's inability to play as first ruck meant the selectors had no choice. He did exactly as expected, some reasonable tap ruck work and not a whole lot else. One good game against his old side where he clunked a few marks.

If we have any luck at all we won't need him this season. Maybe, just maybe, if we play two rucks in a game he might get a run but even then I'd prefer Soldo or Ivan Snr.
