Hampson: 9 disposals (3k, 6h) @67% DE, 4 contested possessions, 74 metres gained, 1 mark, 1 clearance, 3 tackles, 36 HO (44% HOTA) in 80% game time.
Ceglar: 17 disposals (11 k, 6hb) @ 47% DE, 10 contested possessions, 243 metres gained, 7 marks, 1 clearance, 3 tackles in 22 HO (22% HOTA) in 84% game time.
A side cannot afford to carry a guy who is on the ground for 80% of the game and FOLLOWS the ball but only gets the ball 9 times. Yes, we all know his HO's crap on the others and that's great but when he's not doing anything after that he just becomes a passenger.
Interesting looking at this again. Hampson was 20% more effective in DE; dominated him in HOs (14+); and doubled him in HOTA%. That's not all bad; on a wettish, blustery day with a slippery surface. However, Ceglar is an improving player, only 25 so just coming into his prime, 98 kgs and 204cm, so even taller than Hampson. His draft history I found interesting:
- 2010 NAB AFL Draft traded by Gold Coast to Collingwood for No. 25 (Patrick Karnezis); 2013 Rookie Draft selection (Hawthorn) No. 15; 2013 NAB AFL Draft rookie elevation (Hawthorn) selection No. 59.
This bears out what Dyer're has put up before - you don't have to give away the world to obtain a decent ruckman. The Dawks prove you don't even have to get a champion. But you need to study the field carefully and select astutely from a club with plentiful supply so someone is under-valued. But we will almost definitely require H for another year as our No.1. Think the club is definitely on the hunt, but clubs are not going to let their best reserve ruckman go easily, anyone in football appreciates their value (though not all expert fans).
Saints have re-signed Longer and Pierce for another 2 years announced today. Don't think there are many easy 'grabs' in top reserve rucks, but it would depend on what you want to pay. Finally, reports are that Soldo played well in the VFL game:
McRae's report - "Ivan Soldo, 32 hit-outs, four disposals, three clearances
Minimal touches, but in the ruck he was really important. He showed that he can dominate around the ground in the hit-outs and was really important for us to stabilise, and in the end win, clearance on the day."
And from VFL thread, Tony B/H posted - "Soldo: he killed the ruck. His taps were like alley-oops and he gave some great contests."
Being mentored and assisted by big EEvan will help him, but sounds too much like another Hammer for some, I'd say!
