Has it been confirmed ? Do we know what the full deal is ? Have the current footy dept got it so wrong in the past that it's only natural to expect the worst ?

Everyone is going off half cocked declaring the end of the world when nothing has been confirmed even though our talent spotters have had an exceptional few years at their job.
Exactly. I can recall the exact same posts over the last few years related to just about every player we have been linked with.

Think we saw him tear Post and Griff a new one in one too many rnd 1 games!
BOY OH BOY WOWEE! Must be a gun ToOheys, If he's torn up both Stumpy and Griff at some stage during his career then we should be grateful that he's only costing us a second pick. Maybe we should keep our first pick handy just in case we need to top the deal up a bit .
Guess we'll have to trust the recruiters if that's the deal they think we need then good luck to the Hamster. Looking from here it's kind of MEH!

I'd say we are not interested in Garlett.

Can't see us using our first pick to snare him, and don't reckon he will last to our third.

IMO that is a little disappointing. Garlett, although a risk, seems like an exciting player. When was the last time we recruited someone with a bit of wow factor.

Before you all start going off at me about those risks, surely we have processes in place now to deal with issues. Cannot be safe all the time or we always end up missing out on some exciting footy players.

Re: poll: Shaun Hampson

If we pick up this rooster, it wil match the disaster of 2001

Re: Shaun Hampson Done Deal

Exactly Baloo. Who's to say we won't get another 2nd round pick out of a later trade deal anyway?

Re: poll: Shaun Hampson

Commenting on Sunrise that hampson deal will be the first one to get done for a second round pick. Has never stood out to me. Am sensing another Jordan McMahon feeling. Surely there are better players out there for us. Not at all happy about this one, and a second rounder is IMHO way overs for him. Sinking feeling.

Re: Shaun Hampson Done Deal

You'd think they've been looking for a state leaguer all year and found nothing. Come to think of it, Studley has been a state leaguer.

Re: poll: Shaun Hampson

Carlton must have seen us coming if this deal gets done. I really hope this isn't going to turn into Hardwick's Kent Kingsley or Jordan McMahon moment.

Re: poll: Shaun Hampson

Here's the dilemma.

I reckon Dimma wants to play two rucks but doesn't think Orren provides enough other than tapwork.

So the way the club justifies pick 28 is playing hampson in the seniors as a tall utility a la Leigh brown in collingwoods flag year.

The fascinating part of this is what it means for the forward setup.

At some point McBean or Elton will demand selection, and if hampson is in tandem with maric, it comes down to jack and Tyrone as fall guys.

Jack? Pffft. First picked.

So vickery then. Doesn't kick enough goals and was meek in the ruck.

Either Tyrone is up for trade or he will be under fierce pressure to make it Kurt tippett style in 2014.

Competition is good. The forward line certainly won't lack for urgency.

Last piece of the puzzle is someone to rove the forward scraps.

Conclusion -- if vickery is to be traded then the RFC could well be visionary.

Re: poll: Shaun Hampson

Interesting scenario Carter.

Trade in the injury prone Hamster, 26 at start of next season n played 63 games in seven seasons for our second rounder.

Trade out the High Def Plasma, 24 early next season n played 75 games in five seasons to receive ?????
If he's deemed as you suggest to be not a good CHF and timid in the ruck surely there's not much value as a trade.

Surely if we are seriously after some ruck talent there's better options than the Hamster, picking up a moneyball player at times to plug a hole may be a worthwhile exercise, making it a habit could have serious consequences of filling the list with bland moderate talent.

Re: poll: Shaun Hampson

Fine with it. All things being equal, you'd have liked to pay pick 40. But all things are never equal. It may not work out, nobody has a crystal ball, but the thinking is sound IMO. To compare it with McMahon is funny. I reckon he'll be good, and at least fill a role capably, and the potential is there for him to come on and be a damaging player, he's shown a bit in the past.

Who? Doesn't look like any hope of Billy Longer. Hawks are in a similar position to us and making plays for the same players.

I just think that AFL clubs aren't in the business of trading away second round picks for mature backups. Not in this day and age.

Hampson will be given a role. And once we arrive at that logical conclusion, what does it mean for others in the structure?

Vickery is in our thinking here somewhere.

Depending on the situation and the player, yes they are. And he's not a plodding spakfilla backup like Oren (who I thought did his job adequately), he's shown he can be dangerous in the fwd line. Any tall who has shown a bit has value.

Dunno, lucky for me I'm not the expert ;D. There's Longer obviously, Freo's Clarke, stunk it up in the grannie and prob no way Freo will let him go but young enough n worthy of at least a sniff. Mould Coast also have some young rucks who have shown a fair bit of potential. Hell I'd rather we even had a serious crack at paying for Humphrey rather than just scrounging around the Hamster simply 'coz he's cheap. We've already got cheapies in Bo n the Orrifice so why the hell pay a decent pick just to replace one of those two.

Because they are not up to AFL standard.

pretty much. Orren filled an emergency need, but ideally you want a backup with more potential and flexibility.

Re: Shaun Hampson Done Deal

End of the day, does it really matter?
What's our strike rate like with 2nd round picks?
