Shane Edwards

Probably cop some grief on this but thought he was okay in the last three quarters after a poor start. The thing I like about his game is he is now starting to take a few on. Trying to take on Judd is a bit keen but a least it shows some ambition. Still needs a fair bit more size and strength (as do most of our side) but is worth playing him every game until the end ofthe year. If Hislop and others are going to get the run reckon he deserves it too.

Agreed. But he's been the same size since he arrived. I'm not sure he can get bigger.

He's still very young. Get him down to McDonalds every day and supersize it. Coffee? add some cream. Bacon and eggs? extra greasy and extra crispy and double the portion. Milkshake? make it a thickshake, four scoops of icecream and top it off with some whipped double cream.

Then I want him pumping weights all summer like he's in prison. He can start running Feb 1!

Most of our guys are far too skinny and undefined. Given we can't crash course them on steriods like the Eagles of the early 90's, alledgedly!, I think a fat diet like every Aussie who lands in Heathrow for an extended stay will suffice.

i would really love to see the Tiges weights coach and ask him what he has been told in relation to what size the players should be. Every time we have run out on the ground this year we have looked massively undersized compared to the other team, including the lower teams. WHY?

He's still small but he's clearly bigger than when he first started.

I wonder this as well. I wouldn't be surprised if he's simply carrying out the directions of the coach.

No grief from me Elmer. ToO and I were posting about Edwards last night.

Re. his weight I think it was during his 2nd pre season that he put on around 5kg. Still needs a few more but the kid has another year or two to prove himself.

Yep, he is definately bigger from last year but as you said long way to go.

Seems a few have his papers stamped already and not prepared to wait. I'm hopeful there is still a bit their to play with.

I remember seeing vision of him in the preseason with his shirt off doing a time trial. He is much bigger than when he was first drafted and I remember think "Who the hell is that". He seems to putting muscle on everywhere but his biceps. Hopefully he will get to Kerr's size. Not too worried, more concerned about Riewoldt and the fact he is still a twig and being forced to play KP against grown, filled out men whilst being double teamed all the time. :rofl :rofl

I dont care much for a blokes who consistantly drops uncontested chest marks.

This kid and many others have suffered at the hands of Wallace. Lets hope it is not too late to revive his career. Played some fantastic football in his first year, and basically needs the body to go with it now. Remember how long Giansiracusa took to put weight on at the doggies. Unfortunately big bodied players were of absolute no concern or interest for Wallace.

i forgot about him.... i think when it comes to McMahon he is a dilemma, i just think with a new coach, as with Connors (they both need a good kick up the :-X) they may improve their defensive side, as much as he appears to kick some shockers he does have pretty good foot skills. He has had a lot of stuff going on off the field and i lean towards giving him another go if we can't get a quality junior. i've been just as frustrated with him as everyone, especially when we played the bulldogs - he was atrocious.

He's no dilemma, if you have a dilemma over McMahon you have no idea

The main thing that concerns me most about Shane, is that after almost 3 seasons he hasn't shown a great deal of progression in either his game or his statistics.

Unlike Tambling for example, who's graph was always heading upward, Eddy seems do have plateaued a little in his performance.

Still despite that (and I'm not entirely sure why) I am a fan.
He does some absolutely fantastic & underrated things during games which often go unnoticed by the masses who focus on his flaws. His hands are top notch and he's a hard worker both ways. I also like his willingness to take on his opponents and break the lines.

However that's not to ignore his weaknesses.
Primarily his size is still very much a problem. He doesn't yet have the required strength to break tackles and as we have seen regularly this season, mature bodies are regularly smashing him in the contest.
Nahas too is light but he's quicker than Shane and gets away from tacklers. Eddy ain't that quick or big. When he gets caught it is regularly causing a damaging turnover and it's hurting us.
He's got to have strength if he's going to play the midfield role he seems most suited to.
That should come with maturity and pre season training but maybe it won't.

There's also plenty of focus on his kicking skills but I see that as less of a problem than many.

Given his possible physical limitations, I'm not exactly sure how much improvement he has left.
Too early yet to say currently but his time's running out and a decision will likely be made on his future by the new coach at the end of next year.

Hopefully a strong pre season in the weights room sees a breakout year in 2010.

his first 2 years were probably better because he was playing as a genuine forward pocket. id take 12 and a goal or two from the fp over 12 from hbf

Needs to be Coburged.

Why?

Spent a month there and performed well earlier in the year. Came back in and played his best game for the year. Then had two average/poor games. Why not just persist with him in the seniors? It is not like he is keeping another kid out ATM.

This is another bloke that we need to get game time into now. He needs to believe that he belongs in the AFL so a good run for 10 weeks or so is what is required.

Correct BBC, this guy is one we have to invest the time into and fortunately we are in a position where we can afford to do that. There will be short term pain, he will make errors and cost us some goals, but I strongly believe that he will pay us back in spades 2011 onwards.
