Sam signed a 2 year contract in August 2016. below is the list who are out @ end of 2017

Jake Batchelor
Nathan Drummond
Nathan Broad
Taylor Hunt
Ivan Maric - announced retirement 30/06/17
Todd Elton
Ben Lennon
Anthony Miles
Steve Morris
Jacob Townsend
Am I right saying Drummond said he will be there next year?

I'd say Broad and Townsend will now get another deal, Miles im certain will be on an AFL list, you'd think unlikely to be ours as he chases more opportunities , be nice to keep him on the cheap though.

Thought he was a bit selfish on his use up forward. Eyes for the goals only.

Yep. I'd say he had a few mates but it's clear from the way he played that he doesn't have any.

So Morris is uncontracted? That's good.
Of that list I expect Townsend, Broad & Drummond to remain.

Great VFL player.

I hope they don't make the mistake of bringing him in for AFL finals, don't think they will but you never know, let him play finals at VFL level.

How many do you think they'd chop? Wouldn't surprise me if Lennon and Batch went around as again as insurance.

I am relieved Sam is contracted.

Reckon he is developing as a genuine goal kicking mid with a massive cieling.

Should persist with, next year at least

It would surprise me if Batchelor was. Think Broady has sealed his fate.
Lennon must be a long shot too after 5 snr games in 2 seasons. He just doesn't seem in their plans at all.

Trade Table

Lloyd
Batchelor
Miles
Lennon
Edwards

Delist

Hunt
Elton
Morris

Retired

Maric
Yarran

No way Batchelor or Lennon gets us a trade. They will be delisted along with Morris, Hunt, Elton and Maric retiring..

Lloyd and Miles to fish for a 2nd rounder, otherwise keep.

Townsend and Broad get another year. Drummond gets a sympathy contract

I think Lloyd is a real chance to make us regret the trade.

He is a matchwinner with X factor who has improved his game and is now getting 30 touches a week ( 20 contested possies in the vfl ) and kicking multiple goals.

Not sure why we would trade him.

i reckon Batchelor is a slight chance to stay, mainly because he is still probably our back up KPD.
If Astbury or Rance went down this week, he would probably come in.

if we go deep into the finals in AFL and VFL then i expect guys like Menadue and Short to get some interest elsewhere, as well as Miles and Lloyd.
I think we could look to trade one or 2 of Menadue, Short, BEllis, Mrakov, McIntosh or Houli (though prob too old to get much interest.)
If we could get a pick between 20 and 30 for one of them i reckon we would look at it.

Why?

Agree. We finally have some kind of depth. All of those players have areas to work on but regardless of what 2017 brings I would hope that a few blokes who play VFL finals are busting down the door to get into the AFL. The only one I'd move would be McIntosh because I believe he is fatally flawed.

As for Sammy , happy to let him dominate VFL and fill roles at AFL until his contract runs out next year and if form warrants, yearly extensions. he can bob up in the AFL and jag three in a half and make a difference. Regardless he has been a terrific value pick and is someone I know is extremely popular within the playing group and one of the harder workers. You need these guys for culture.

Spot on. Lloyd is improving still IMO. Only his 3rd year at the club I think? May yet play an important role in our finals.

Not so much disagreeing with you tl, however he has been on the list for 5 years ? He also came in as a mature player who'd had a few years as a senior footballer , his had plenty of time to show his where's, an fact is he didn't take his opportunitys earlier in the season, I think the Sam first team second attitude had him out of the side.

Had a great season last year. Miles had great years previously. I think the reason Miles and Lloyd are not getting games is for similar reasons. They aren't quick and they aren't maybe as defensively capable as others who have taken their spots, particularly in that pressure act department. Clearly the significant game plan change of this year hasn't helped either of those two players. It's not a coincidence to me that they are two of the standouts at VFL level because they are both very accomplished players but just not unfortunately relevant anymore in the eyes of our coaching panel (except as depth).
