Sam Lloyd

I hate to bring up Sam Lloyd in the Griff/Ty/Beanie thread, but I am keen to see how he goes this year. A natural footballer, hopefully his fitness has improved to allow him to run out AFL games. The lad has some tools.

He isn't yet by a long way, but I still think he has enough natural talent to be one of our most important wild cards in our forward line (which typically HF's have to be to be of value). Hope he gets a more decent run at it to be able to prove he can (or can't)

Vickery has been our second best forward over the last 5 years. And probably our second best ruckman too. Though that's a harder measure. And on top of those actual football facts (which, in all honesty, are still opinions as are your football facts) Vickery's trajectory has been consistently up. He continues to improve. I see no reason for that to stop. So he is a proven performing player, important to our structure, who supports our star forward, and has upside. I don't see the need to keep hating. He probably could have been better. He may yet be.

have to give you credit, you're patient.

Vickery is 25 yo and has played over a hundred games.

the glimpses we've seen are all we're gonna get.

Kicked 31 goals last year (from 15 games) coming into his peak years.

Is already an asset. He smashed a few games last season. Can only seeing him getting better from here. Will become a major weapon for the next 5 years.

Much maligned.

Disagree. Unless he's unlike pretty much every 200cm player in history, he'll be better after 25 than before.

Coming off a season of consistent goal kicking?

That sounds like the recipe for ready to explode.

At the end of 2014 season you said he would have a lower trade value come the end of 2015. You may even have called that a football fact. I disagreed. You were, evidently, wrong. And I'm prepared to go double or nothing on season 2016.

He will be one of the dominant big men in the competition come September this year. And that's a football fact.

Think Carter likes Dodo's, or at least referring to everyone's thoughts or opinions as going like the Dodo. Where is the scratchy head emoji when you need it?

seem to recall that was only for you DLR :hihi

I think Ty gets marked a bit harshly, he had a good second or third season and got crunched in the shoulder in the following pre-season. It was a real heavy knock, but he had the guts to play on until mid-season when he had a shoulder reconstruction. I've had a shoulder injury, they can take a bit of time to get over.
He had a good year last and i reckon he will go up another couple of levels this season.

At 180 cm. and 83 kg he hardly qualifies as a dominant big man but I agree he will kick more goals. 10 goals from 8 games in 2014 and 13 from 12 in 2015 augurs well for 2016.

I think this thread should be renamed

How dare you assume that they are speaking about Sam Lloyd in the Sam Lloyd thread!

Vickery has done more in the AFL than McBean, and did more in the VFL when he went back there this year. But that's irrelevant, that's the point. I'm the first to say that McBean has played waaay too much VFL, but the outcome of that, is that he's going to have a more impressive VFL portfolio than Vickery, over the last three years. Pretty simple logic. You can't compare McBean's AFL form to Vickery's, or Vickery's VFL form to McBeans. It's stupid.

Riiight, the "he hasn't performed, unless you include the games he has performed". Can't argue with that.

Well. Playing without Heart is a made up Carter intangible. I think he plays with lots of heart. And lots of head. I think his deficiencies are: Concentration, reaction after a contest, running toward goal rather than away from it at times, repeat running. Those are some of things he needs to work on.

Tigersnake's covered this one. I guess Cotchin, Riewoldt, Rance, Deledio are also players we can't afford to carry seeing we haven't won 11 flags with them either.

Is Dimma too forgiving or not forgiving enough? He's blind, but clearly sees Tyrone had some deficiencies to work on? Dimma's an idiot for not dropping anyone, but Tyrone's terrible for getting dropped by Dimma.
Who are you having a go at here? Dimma clearly managed it well, and Tyrone clearly responded well. As far as I can make out here, you tried to take potshots at too many of your whipping boys at once, and proving their mutual success.

Quality post

The fact he was played in the middle in the intraclub match suggests a Nick Daffy scenario. I was at Waverley the for an intraclub back in 97 or 98 when Nick moved into the middle on the back of dropping some kegs and getting really fit. For Sam he too has got himself into some decent condition. Maybe as a small forward rotating through the middle for short bursts could be his thing.
