Sam Lloyd

With Sam's improved fitness, I'd like to see him tried in the midfield during the nab cup. He has clean hands and if successful would give a chop out to our mids during the season proper.

Both Griff and Vickery need to develop some consistency, no doubt.

I actually think Griff will become a damn good contested grab.

He's demonstrated this in quite a few games, sometimes at clutch moments.

I thought he did ok at CHB a few years ago too.

So no, Coburg, Griff does look like a footballer more than you give him credit for.

However, we may as well put 20 guys behind the ball if we think Griff and Vickery can share ruck duties. We will get monstered.

Once McBean is up and running there will be only one spot for Griff and Tyrone. I think Ben will develop more consistency within games and across games.

I'm not sure that's right. All a ruckman has to do is halve the contest, and be useful around the ground.

Getting destroyed out of the ruck can lose you games, but neither Griffiths or Vickery ever get destroyed. They aren't going to dominate like a Sandi or goldy, but few do.

If it wasn't for those games as a ruck in 2014, Griffiths would already be on the scrapheap, it's certainly not his forward ability that's giving people any hope.

With Griffiths and Vickery as rucks, you would halve most ruck duels, and have two players with skill in the ball, who can be useful around the ground. And no, you would not need to play 20 behind the ball.

Correct CT. It's not like old Ivvy is holding his own against the best rucks ATM anyway.

Your point re: our opinion on Griff being different because of his time in the ruck is a good one. He was lost prior to that.

Not many thought he could ruck at all. It turns out, for quite a few valid reasons that's when he's played his best footy.

He's an identical height and weight to Maric dont forget, but panels ahead with his athleticism and leap.

No one looks like a footballer but delivers less than Griffiths. Ultimate tease. Has shown glimpses and nothing more. But gets a golden run. How long do we wait?

Half the footballer Vickery is. Griffiths is a poor man's Kosi, nothing more. Would like to see McBean given half the opportunity that Griffiths has.

Time for a change be bold. Hardwick took the soft option at the selection table in the final last year and it backfired. No more games on "looking good".

Sam Lloyd should've been in the finals side last year. Opponents have to be pay him attention.

Ivaarn is about shot I reckon, but these two aren't the answer.

They are inconsequential in the middle, and as you get rotations torn down and players become more fatigued quick clearances might become more valuable.

like you I have some time for big Ben but you wonder about his body getting smashed week in week out.

who knows, he might surprise in this kind of role. I'd like to be proven wrong for sure.

I think both have exquisite skills for such big guys but I would argue both have glaring weaknesses that need to be addressed.

Vickery has certainly put more numbers up but when he's quiet, which can be for three quarters of a game, he's putrid.

2016 will be about Jack and Liam waxing together anyways ...

Ty is one of our most important players. Griff ain't. After a bad season-long slump, the trajectory on Ty is undeniably up, Griff's continues to flatline. Ty gets it done and demands a good opponent, Griff doesn't. Agree with SCOOP, Griff is half the player Ty is.

That said, I still have hope that griff can do a Rhys Stanley and go from being not very good to OK. Saddling him up for ruck work has worked reasonably well at Geelong.

I agree that Griff has been flatlining and that any kind of improvement would be against trend.

But to say Vickery is on the up after a small bracket of games, after being dropped twice, is fanciful.

I would say there's equal measures of hope needed for Griff, Ty and Beano. Naturally, I think the latter will be fine ;D

At least with Beano we have consistent VFL numbers. Not so the other two.

when was Ty dropped?

One time was for the 2014 finals and the other was mid season. Dunno the exact dates.

ancient history. I thought you meant last season. Plenty of good players have lost form and been dropped along the way.

Ty wasn't dropped for 2014 finals, he just wasn't selected again after his suspension for giving big Cox a backhander.

A few goals against Collingwood and Sydney? That's history too, but not a trend.

Go and ask Ty if he was dropped or omitted. Same thing.

Oh its a trend Carts. And the trend is up

:hihi I hope he kills it. he has the physique, the skills, and he's a freakin' ice man in front of goal. should be smashing it!
