As soon as you put guys like Jack, Dusty, and to a lesser extent Lloyd, into the mix you have the backline second guessing and they get tangled up and wrong footed trying to cover all of the options.

Yeah I like
Jack Vickery Griffiths
Lloyd Corey Lennon

With midfield rotations (Maric dusty lids Edwards ) all getting a spell down there.
McBean magic Macov might get a look

He probably did Brodders.

He's coming from a long way back fitness wise and from a very low base so he will keep improving his times.

Credit to him he's been able to impact as much as he has.

Leysy knows your a knocker/doubter of his, but this guy can play and hasn't reached his level yet.

i think i was on his bandwagon last pre-season, but i didnt really see anything different.

he wont make it if he can only play in the forward pocket and doesnt provide defensive pressure. no FP can.
if the reports are true, and he can run through the midfield and can improving his tackling, harassing etc then he will probably be a regular. he ball skills and smarts certainly warrant it.

The Griffiths fixation can be unhealthy.

Lot of love for a player Champion data rated the least competitive tall defender when he played back and below average when he played forward.

Not many places for him to go, you'd reckon.

I'll meet you on the Griffiths thread

When I start basing my opinions on Champion data I reckon it might be time to give it away.

Griffiths issues now are consistency and being injury free. Anyone watching games, as distinct from keeping stats as CD does, knows he can play

I've watched the games, and I have never even looked at CD.

And I can tell you that Griffiths looks like he can play, but actually can't. He's very good at nearly marking it and almost kicking goals.

That's what the Griffo fans call "intangibles".

in fairness, if there is one thing Klomp22 is an expert on it is fixations.

pretty good summary

Lloyd can kick a goal or two or three from nothing and that's a rare skill, many of his predecessors kicked points from nothing and nothing from nothing. He's got some upside still.
Just waiting for the occasional screamer that he possesses but hasn't displayed so far.
Prefer Lloyd to Gordon but with Rioli coming. Time to take your chance Sammy.

I suggest you grab a few tapes of the last 8-9 rounds of 2014. His issues are fitness, confidence and consistency but none of them relate to his ability.

I am not sure he will ever put it together consistently but if he doesn't it will actually be a waste of a lot of football ability.

Nah, given his opportunities if he doesn't make it, he simply wasn't good enough Sin.
Nah, there are plenty of examples of players who are good enough not making it Leysy. There are multiple reasons for success of a footballer rather than ability.

Griffiths has lots of ability, imo he probably is the most talented big man at the club, but that doesn't mean he is going to make a success of his footy career

Disagree Sin, Griff may have potential but unless you translate that into performance it does not constitute ability.

eg I have the potential to be a concert pianist but at present I can't play the piano.

To be fair to Griffiths, I see him as a very capable around the ground second ruck, which is the position he was playing in those rounds. It's a luxury position for him, where he doesn't have to be the go to man, nor be responsible for anything. It also takes away a lot of the thinking, because it's just 'see ball, leap for ball, roost it forward'. I actually would love of we could use Griff/Vickery as the two talls rotating through this position, with Vickery more forward, and Griffiths more ruck.

But as a forward, you won't find any games (bar one against freo over there) where Griffiths has even approximated a capable footballer.

Leysy has some time for Griff, but fully agrees with that CT.

For the reasons you outline ruck is comfortably his best chance of a substantial AFL career.

Both Griff and Vickery need to develop some consistency, no doubt.

I actually think Griff will become a damn good contested grab.

He's demonstrated this in quite a few games, sometimes at clutch moments.

I thought he did ok at CHB a few years ago too.

So no, Coburg, Griff does look like a footballer more than you give him credit for.

However, we may as well put 20 guys behind the ball if we think Griff and Vickery can share ruck duties. We will get monstered.

Once McBean is up and running there will be only one spot for Griff and Tyrone. I think Ben will develop more consistency within games and across games.
