Sam Lloyd

Reckon Lloyd showed plenty. Is hard to get into the rhythm when your subbed and benched so much as well as being in and out of the team like a yo-yo. Hope he gets a good go next year.

100% how many subs come on so late in games and have better impacts then him.
In one of his full games when he actually started on the ground he burnt Collingwood.
The kid is good.(maybe not quick) but good in all other areas

If lloyd can crack our best 22 then I see genuine improvement coming from him with the additional ground time he will get with no sub . Is one of those players that could easily kick a couple of small bags along with 2 and 3 game .

Whenever Jacobs came on for us as the sub he would always get at least one goal. Always thought he should have been getting full games.

I like Sam as he is a natural footballer so will always find a way to get the ball. His lack of genuine pace is the biggest concern.

However, on the small snippets I have seen of him so far this preseason he is starting to look like more a professional footballer rather than a suburban footballer who found himself in the AFL.

There's a good article on Slamming Sam on the AFL site, he was obviously not happy about being dropped for the Elim final and is using it as motivation.
He has lowered his pb on the 3km time trial by a fair bit and reckons he is yet to play his best footy.
I like his attitude, he hasn't done too much wrong in the limited opportunities he has been given.

Yep. Said before and will say it again. Sam with 22 full games will be (one of) the 30 goal small forward.

Read that article as well & he was not Happy Jam. The thing I like about Lloyd & Lennon is that they have got some bulk not like those that replaced them. I also thought Gordon was a bit hard done by as well in getting the chop as I do think the Sub rule inhibited a lot of players like him.

with a fit Corey Ellis and Lennon plus an emerging Rioli I am just not sure where that leaves Llyod - I watched the rd 1 Carlton game from last year again last night he played a very good game.

Depth

Lloyd, Lennon, Rioli, Butler, Short all small/medium forwards but they are different types as well. None of them played the EF.

Fight it out lads, that's what we want

Think if Sammy's tank has improved can play the Chappy role as a mid sized hit up forward . Did seem to play that role a bit last year where he was winning the ball up around the logos

Lennon by the length of the Flemington straight in this group.... 2 maybe 3 classes above the rest.

Word from a friend of SAMs is he has had a ripping preseason, has not missed a beat. Reckon we will see a fair bit of Sammy this year.

i think the same thing was reported last year. hopefully this year it is true and he can impact as his ball skills are very good.

He probably did Brodders.

He's coming from a long way back fitness wise and from a very low base so he will keep improving his times.

Credit to him he's been able to impact as much as he has.

Leysy knows your a knocker/doubter of his, but this guy can play and hasn't reached his level yet.

Don't think he is the answer.
Hope I'm wrong but can not see it.
I can, think Sammy will have a very productive year. Think he will be given every chance to show his wares.

Lloyd is a very smart footballer. A natural.

The question is whether he's committed enough. If he has had a big preseason and has improved his tank, we could be in for some fun. I hope so.

He knows where the goals are. Just needs to get amongst it more, and show some more defence when the other mob have the pill.

I think the death of the sub rule could get Sam over the line and into the team. I often wonder what would happen if Sam was given 8 full games in a row to prove himself like Morris was. But rightly or wrongly Dimma always rates hard work and discipline over flair and natural talent. If he can just get involved in the game a bit more he really could bring something special to the forward line.

It's a pet hate of mine having a dour and predictable forward line. As soon as you put guys like Jack, Dusty, and to a lesser extent Lloyd, into the mix you have the backline second guessing and they get tangled up and wrong footed trying to cover all of the options.

It's psychological/physiological fact that every variable you introduce to a decision making process slows that process down. Just watch a defender with his feet glued to the ground trying to figure out what the hell Cyril will do next. You combine that raw talent and unpredictability with a few 55 meter goals from Lids or Dusty and you get a forward zone that is stretched wide and deep, and a bunch of defenders confused and unsure which way to turn and who to chase.

Just look at the Hawks, that's a structure we should be following.
