His improved no doubt, however is he good enough for a top 4 mid size forward ? His lack of pace is a worry when opposition bring it out of the back half. I'm not fussed if he stays, however I think I'd neally give his spot to Stevie J for a year and then bank on the likes of Butler, Short, McBean coming in to produce more goals. He'd be heading into only his 3rd AFL season but he will be 27

Like nearly all your stuff CC but replacing Lloyd with Johnson for a year seems absolutely pointless.

I'm probaly a bit harsh on Lloyd JB, simply I think Johnson would offer more then Lloyd next year, after that I don't think either will be good enough and the kids should have enough VFL to come up.

Stevie J does come for free

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

Yes Johnston does come free. He brings with him plenty of finals winning experience which we surely need but still not convinced we should be in the market Maybe a deal of one year playing say 15 home and away games plus finals then an assistant coach role

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

Johnson kicked kicked 30 this year. Lloyd kicked 13 in his 12 games (many where he was sub). I reckon Sammy would kick 30 if he played 23 full games.

9 of his goals were against Carlton, Gold Coast & Collingwood, he didn't hit 20 possessions once and he struggled against all the finalists. It would be a leap of faith to suggest he'll have the same impact as Johnson.

No, not a leap at all. Sam averages 1.2 a game (1.1 for 2015) so at 23 games you can assume he,ll kick 23 at least.

Btw Stevie kicked 11 (33%) against St Kilda, Brisbane and Essendon FWIW.

It's nit like we are getting Johnson at his peak.
We do need to think this through

Johnson played 20 matches so averages 1.5 goals, already he has the edge on that count. He averaged 20 disposals a match, something which Lloyd has achieved once in his career, that being his debut game. Johnson is also a big game performer, his stats against the finalists was far and away superior to Lloyd's.

Johnson's last five weeks of football was pretty good aside from the goal kicking, he kicked 12.13 and averaged 21 disposals. Anything close to this will far exceed the likes of Lloyd, Gordon and god forbid, Morris. Those who believe we have the personnel to match this output are dreaming, there's a good reason why Lloyd was dropped for the final and I can see why the selectors were looking elsewhere.

22 games unless he can kick goals during the bye.

(I made the same mistake the other week TT)

Johnson may be useful to us in the Ben cousins way for a season but does anyone really know if Stevie J wants to come to Tigerland?
Media reports claim he wants to play at least another season before rolling into a coaching role, guess that puts us into the mix of having a coffee n conversation. After that it's anyone's guess.

Today's roar vision shows Lloydy running in the group time trial.

Has his contract been renewed? I hope so because I'm a fan, and now he won't have to deal with that ridiculous sub rule. Having said that, he'll have to keep improving his fitness base particularly with the reduction in bench rotations.

Haven't seen anything official but clearly it was Sam or Nipper Gordon & Sam got the nod

I don't really think there's much value in either of them, however Lloyd has certainly shown more composure in the games he's played than Gordon did.

Hopefully he can lift his endurance and speed to start impacting on games more.

Reckon Lloyd showed plenty. Is hard to get into the rhythm when your subbed and benched so much as well as being in and out of the team like a yo-yo. Hope he gets a good go next year.

I think Lloyd is a pure footballer, he averages over 1 goal a game in his second year , whilst spending much of the time in the vest. If he can just add some more goals off the deck, put a little more pressure on opposition and a few more tackles ,I feel he could really be valuable. Also allowing our forwards to play with a little more creativity from the coaches ie. looking to find space and create at stoppages in our fwd 50 ,rather than having to man up defensively, would make Lloyd even more valuable. Watching all of our playmakers eg Edwards, lids, Lloyd having to man up and think defensively in our fwd 50 frustrates me and I think restricts our scoring .

Agree, just needs a good run at it!

Modern football has more goals scored from errors than set play, so I'm told, so as frustrated it is seems, it is where the juice is if the good teams. We just ain't juicy enough yet. The persistence with the "Morris Experiment" probably held us and Lloyd back a bit. Better things to come from Lloyd this season I think. Another good pre-season, now at tipping point (stay or go) should be enough motivation. The tools are there.
