Sam Lloyd

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

Have seen enough of both him and Gordon with their critical skill and decision making errors.

Not up to it.

Both should be delisted.

Don't know what to make of his performance. And I'm a fan.

Got the ball often enough in dangerous spaces but butchered it. Knows how to get the ball in the forward 50, needs to make them count to keep his spot. If he had started on the ground, he could have potentially had 2 or 3 goals.

He should have had 2 anyway. Missed a soda in the 3rd quarter and another very gettable one in the last. That's why he was selected and he needs to kick them.

He was a butcher tonight. VFL player and should be delisted. Can't afford to carry journeymen like him and Gordon.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

certainly not the only culprit today, but out of all the goals missed today, his two very gettable ones really hurt the most imo. the position the game was at, especially in the last quarter, and he missed, and then they scored...

The shot in the third was horrible. Heaps of time and blazed away. Drove me mad.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

Is offensive putting him in the same sentence as Gordon. Anyone for that matter in the same sentence as Gordon.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

Said it elsewhere. Bush footballer that gets lucky.

Next.

Thought after the first two shocking disposals Lloyd actually played very well. Got himself into the right positions, held the ball when he needed to before giving it off, and showed a lot more than Gordon or Morris do. Would he get a game if a Knights or Edwards was available or we had another gun midget, no probably not, but as our list stands he's the best option currently I think.
Lloyd actually showed a bit at times today. He can definitely do it at VFL level, but I agree he makes crucial mistakes, like Gordon, at AFL level. But he IS better than Gordon. I think nerves may get to him at AFL. Needs more experience and game-time to be less panicky. He knows it's going to be pacier and more pressured, but then rushes, referred pressure gets to him. That's why he missed that easy goal in the 3rd when he never needed to use a hook-kick, had time to just run straight in and dob it. I actually think he can make it with more experience that brings composure, like Lambert is making it. Even Gordon has got the physical attributes, like running power, but skills under pressure are flaky.
Anyway, my final comment - these guys are the price we paid for letting Matt White - remember, the explosive small foward/mid, loyal, lifelong RFC supporter we let walk out for nothing, because we were too tight to offer him a decent contract. Back kicking great goals for PA tonight. Oh - he's got great pace too.

Yep, tried to be fancy and put it across his boot and squandered a gilt-edged chance like a millionaire.

Stick to the basics if you want to be a senior player.

Surely in todays professional environment, that act in itself it almost worthy of a dropping. He had plenty of time but chose to try to be a hero, and didn't really redeem himself afterward.

Bit over the top. I would say more players than not choose to kick for goal around their bodies today. They practise that more and more. Yes was the wrong decision in that moment but if that's the act that causes him to be dropped then there's alot of players who had a shot for goal yesterday wh should be dropped.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

It appears that in the search for a small/ midsize goal kicking forward with I.e Lloyd, Gordon, mcdoungh we have found nothing more then good VFL players, we have also attempted to Morris into one which has failed miserably and at the end of the day our best option looks like a bloke who should have retired 2 years a go. Geez there's a big opportunity for Short, Butler an co next year, that's if we don't land Motlop

correction. he is back to kicking 1 goal. out of the 20 power kicked. from 6 possessions. against essendon.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

I disagree with most on here. That shot in the second quarter was terrible, all small forwards should kick those 9 times out of 10. It was however uncharacteristic of Sam, he usually does kick those. The round the corner snap in the last, off either his wrong foot or check side I can't remember, was only ever a 50/50 chance.

Apart from that he is actually the only player on our list that plays like a true small forward. He was constantly finding space, getting himself to dangerous positions, front and centre of packs, and making a pest of himself like a small forward should. His miss in the third quarter was his first kick after running off the bench, a tough gig running on off the bench in a close game.

I can only imagine how Sam would be travelling if he had the confidence of the multiple games Morris was gifted in the forward line. Funnily enough his 11 possessions and 1 goal 2 is exactly the same return we got from our full forward, Jack Riewoldt, except Sam did it in half the game time.

That's a really bad comparison. Lloyd did nothing up the ground, didn't have to combat multiple defenders and his only goal was because he sat in the goal square at the end of a chain of good football and kicked through an uncontested goal.

Fair call, bit harsh on Jack considering he is double teamed most of the time. However, the snap by Lloyd that missed was on exactly the same spot that Jack missed a set shot. The cheap goal that Sam got on the end of he had to make body contact at the right time, make space on the goal side and take the mark. Morris would have stuffed it up.

Spot on. We could have kept McDonough in and got the same result, possibly even better, from him. Does not have it.

It was the way he kicked it, rather than the miss. Just super extravagant, as though he was thinking "Watch this!".
