Ryan Bastinac

Interesting, an Ainslie boy who is the son of a club legend. Unless I've missed someone I think two of the last three Ainslie players to go onto AFL were James Hird and Nathan Buckley

FWIW some of the credible Phatom drafts I have seen on BF have him in the mix around the 40-65 mark. Burgatron has him there or later

Well we have pick 44 and 51 so if we are keen enough he should be available for us. All depends on who drops and who gets taken earlier than we expect.

I know how you feel when you follow some kids more closely and they don't get the kudos you think they deserve whilst others you have seen leave you scratching your head, yet some how get all the attention.

What are your thoughts on Bastinac bobby?

Like him.

I think once he is fully developed he will become a lethal player playing an inside out role for a club.

His ability to swing to either his right or left foot is his biggest asset and his field kicking is genuinly good, not elite but good. Nothing you can complain about.

His work in contested situations is very good, he reads the ball of the palm as good as any inside mid and he works hard to run and support teammates. His athletic testing shows he has all the tools to succeed at the next level. He also has a level of versatility in that he can play half back, half forward, one out forward or through the midfield. Dangerous player.

If he was around at Pick 19 he would definitely be up for consideration in my opinion. Depends on if anyone else drops or not I suppose, but would be very happy to obtain his services. Adding him and Martin makes our midfield that much better.

I have only seen the tapes but he looks to have the quality we need and there is enough there to think he will succeed at the higher level. I am hoping that we take the best available here so it depends on who gets through.

Of those who may I'd go in order Trapscott, Talia, Black, Carlisle, Stevens, Taylor, Sheppard and then Bastinac.
From this group he looks to be the most likely to last and that would be an excellent result.

This kid can play, would be very happy to grab him at 19...Comes from a good family football background.IMHO is a footballer first, good on both sides and very consistant.

I know the stingrays rate him very highly.

Very versitile footballer.

Watching him on youtube now, kicked a 35m stab pass on the run, his got a good handpass on him, sounds like a basic skill but it can cause critical turnovers in the middle, but he hit the target with his hands. He looks like a 16 year old, he might take a bit longer than dustin martin but will come good as he gets stronger.

Bastinac is the type we need rolling through our midfield. May not end up being a starting centre square on baller but is the type you want starting on a flank and getting a chance to be part of your midfield group. Not overly quick, bit like Nick Stevens when he was young, could run all day at the same pace.

Key prospect emerges from the shadows

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/87145/default.aspx

"He probably hasn't received the accolades that Tom has, but as far as his ability [there's no doubts] … he's always on the same lap as Tom in the 3km time trial and there's very, very few players who can do that. His time at the draft camp was outstanding.

"His skills are equal to if not better than Tom. He probably hasn't got the explosiveness and the lateral movement that Tom's got, but he's hands are outstanding, his skills are outstanding and inside he's fantastic."

wouldnt be the worst thing if we picked him with 19

Agreed.
I would hope we don't just go tall for the sake of it at 19.
Bastinac looks the goods to me.

Pic 18 (PP) Bastinac, Oops we dont have a PP :hihi
Pic 20 Carlisle or Griffiths

That wouldve been a nice little double package i must say...

We've got holes everywhere.
Best available at 19 whether short or tall. We can look to fill needs with later picks.

of course oldie best available, me thinks tall or short there will be talent at pic 19, but i would go carlise or griffits first, would only go small at 19 if lets say a talented mid like Tapscott happened to slide....

I would be happy to get him. Sounds like another mid to add to our mix. Best player still at this pick. We can load up on talls with the later picks and in the rookie draft.
