Russia Invades Ukraine

What rule of law and international agreements? NATO obviously don’t respect the rule of law (see Kosovo intervention) and what happened to respecting the Minsk agreements? The US had shown it doesn’t respect the rule of law when it runs counter to their interests so why should Russia?

Appeasement and containment is the only rational course of action, the myth of WW2 appeasement being bad policy continues to plague many people’s understanding of foreign policy theory.

Hogswash, if the allies recognised the errors of Versailles and allowed Germany to reclaim some of their demands they could have had an ally to then counter the USSR, which following WW2 was the state of affairs that led to European peace for decades.

Errors might have been documented but Hitler caused WW2 is sacrosanct. I’ve already suggested you read A.J.P. Taylor’s “The Origin’s of the Second World War”, a generally guiding principle of history to to listen to historians that are unflattering to their country.

The Kosovo intervention saved hundreds of thousands of lives as Milosovic was following a clear campaign of genocide, but I guess you would have taken a "realpolitik" "oh how oppressed the Serbs are" "it's all the West's fault" line on that as well.

Sure, the west could have allowed Germany to rearm faster and give them back some of the Versailles concessions... would have fast-tracked Hitler's expansion program, and they still would have had an alliance of convenience with the Soviets anyway. Don't agree? Tough sh1t, it's a historical counterfactual so no-one knows either way.

As before literally hundreds of historians have examined the causes and factors of WW2 - to say that the West ignores these many factors is just wrong. Taylor's thesis is strong - powers are powers, and will act like powers regardless of who runs them - which is true to an extent. Strangely he also mentions appeasement and weak responses by the rest of Europe to Hitler's aggressions as a primary cause.

You get his take on the Russians totally wrong as well. The Soviets wanted peace with the UK and France, and were rebuffed - so they formed the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact. Taylor argues the "west" should have allied with the Soviets against the Nazis. A big fail by you dude.

Normally you at least have understood your source material G, looks like you have forgotten most of what Taylor wrote or maybe you just are swallowing the Mises.org line on his work.

tbf a producer error, had the two guys mixed on the screen chirons
You reckon if he was going to interview people and be so belligerent about the topic he might actually do some research and work out who he’s talking to. If he had he would have realised they had it the wrong way around. But he was too busy talking over every one to take notice. Obviously all about him.

Two fat old white guys yelling at you on a monitor look pretty much the same - he wouldn't do pre-interviews with them, that's not how it works, You'd trust what you see on the monitors unless you'd actually met them/interviewed them before.

It's a funny clip but you can't blame the presenter. He's the presenter, he does what the producers/directors tell him and trust they've got the onscreen info right. Note also that the producer/director did not pull him up over the earpiece. Totally their fault IMO

You would have through he would chat to them both before the show started, if even to say hello, and realised then.

Producer and Host at fault here. Still very funny.

Yeah nah, they'd have a whole series of interviews/sections lined up. Guests are dialled in shortly before interview, they don't all zoom and have a chat to the host before the show starts, particular when they are in different timezones all over the world.

anyway I've defended the poor bastard enough

Didn't realise you were an expert in Indian TV talk back shows. I'll retract everything I have said.

Appeasement and containment is the only rational course of action

and there you have it ladies and gentlemen. When confronted a bully rogue state the only rational course of action is give them exactly what they want and hope they are happy with that.

You forgot containment.
The appeasement is giving them everything they want.
Then when they want more and get more belligerent it's the time for containment. And the best way to do that is more appeasement

Yeh, I'll remind my kids to appease bullies in school lest they get a smack in the mouth. I might pack an extra lunch so they can share it/give it to them.

Its not that he gets the people mixed up, which is funny and a production team fault.

But they are guests on his show, someone specifically invited to share their wisdom.
And the host so quickly turns to belittling one of them, attacking their character and denigrating them and their country.
He happens to get the people muddled up but he was a complete ahole to his guests

Personally i totally support hosts that shut down guests who just keep yelling with no regard for the host or the other guest, but that's just my opinion.

Reckon there are classier ways to do it.
Go back to your own country / pick up a gun yourself you coward... its not a professional shut down

Putin is goading the West, he’s itching for a world war, will have a sidekick in China.
