Rucking Hell

I'll say it again
In the 2013 trade period we took Hampson for pick 32
Mummy went to GWS for pick 35

Obviously there would have been negotiations between Syd & GWS earlier on in the year, but we should have been in his managers ear as well with a big fat cheque book.

Mummy, at the time, didn't entertain anyone else as he wanted to stay in Sydney.

Id be tempted just to say to Griffiths and Vickery that they'll be the ruckmen for the rest of the season.
Give opportunities up forward to Chol & McBean.
Need to start the transition away from Maric and Hampson who both should be off the list next season.

Agree totally - with how our season is shaping, there will be a point that it will be better to see if we can 'force' Vickery into playing with some sort of intensity by rucking him for a series of games. When he has started a game in the ruck, he has gone on to play some OK games up forward. And what is it with running with floppy wrists?

Which would've meant trading Maric, or paying him good money to play VFL after being AA squad in 2012. No club can afford to carry two #1 rucks.

Mumford's great when he's on the park but his knees were/are wobbly. And Hampson wiped the floor with him in 2014.

That is the point. Not Baloo's.

Mummy wouldnt have come to us as number two. And Ivvy wouldn't have stayed.

The really ridiculous part is that we parted with a higher pick than GWS to get a number two ruck across than they did a quality number one...WTF!!!!!

Who would we have rucked against Goldstein in the EF after Mumford broke down?

I don't post very often but read through all the forums....
I watched all the games this year, to the Melbourne game I thought Maric held his own, the problem aint the ruck its our game plan...
After a score why not kick long to the boundary, then if we regather possession why not kick long to a contest.. preferably to a contest where we are out numbered...
what happened to backing each other up breaking a line creating loose man... As Cotch did in the last quarter... we have to run it through the center.... Where is our game plan?????

Mummy has an intrinsic value that goes well beyond his ruck work. He is the enforcer that makes the GWS midfield walk taller and the opposition players look over their shoulder. The amount of times he will tap it in close to an opposition mid just so he can collapse on them and drive them into the ground hard and legally.

Put Mumford in our side and the performance of our midfield would improve out of sight.

Shane Mumford.

He wouldnt have been in that contest playing for GWS against Collingwood the day he got injured. ;D

Lets not ignore the facts.

Mummy had a good offer from the Hawks on the table but preferred staying in Sydney if it could be managed. GWS had bag loads of cash they were also last so that they had PSD 1 pick. Mummy was coming off contract so the Swans were forced to trade for fear of losing him to GWS for nothing. That's why the pick finally used to trade him, 30something, wasn't really reflective of his worth.

Remember when we could have had McEvoy for a later pick but chased Hampson for a higher pick?

Zac Smith wasn't worth chasing?

Doesn't matter. We don't appear to have mids to tap it to.

Is that true on McEvoy? Not a big fan but much better than Hampson obviously. I thought Smith was cooked myself, shows how much I know. And yeah, mids, mids, mids.

I Think also there was another factor. Mummy was off contract then they signed Buddy for squillions and had no salary cap room and your point of him wanting to stay in Sydney flows from there. Your assessment of the ultimate pick used is correct IMO.

Not quite. As said Sydney needed to offload him for cap room, that is what affected the draft pick used.

If a club through enough money at Mummy and offered him the number 1 ruck slot he would have gone there. Sydney would also have been happy with any half reasonable pick no matter who from.

Saying that, and as leysy has said he wasn't really suited to us as we already had Ivan.

Couple of names that are out of the 1's right now & could be gettable.

Billy Longer & Jarrod Witts.

Billy???

Not sure on his commitment levels to the game.

Couldn't find a suitable ruckman from our entire country so we've sent over scouts to the US combine.
Shouldn't be too hard to find a tall that can jump, the real question is can they be ready by next week?
