Rucking Hell

Smith was the obvious choice. Did we even know who he was considering he didn't play at Port. Interesting 2 players we were chasing last year were hartlett and lobbe both from port. Can someone send blair the lists of the other 16 clubs please.

Have heard from behind the scenes that Zac Clarke has even less appetite for the contest than Griff and Vickery.

Definite no.

Clarke's 2013 GF would no doubt be a skeleton in his psychological closet.

Used to think Vickery's future was ruck, but it's not going to happen other than as a pinch-hitter.

The athletic, agile types get beaten up if they're thrown into the ruck early. They end up developing techniques for minimising the bash and crash. This is the query I have on the likes of Tom Nicholls. Goodes and Mitch Clark both preferred not to play there. Naitanui's an athlete but he's also a monster.

Agree with others that we need a younger Ivan. A warhorse.

Blair would be right into him then.

Hindsind is a wonderful thing, but should have went after Kreuzer, or did we try and just not get him...not sure, but I think he would make a big difference to our midfield.

I think the model we need to look for is a Jacobs, Leunberger, Ottens type, or else a monster athlete who has the physical shape to put on muscle. Yep, that is Natanui. Even in his prime I reckon the mighty iVan would struggle against all of the above.

Ty is a scared mouse when in a centre square ruck contest. Will never ever be a first ruck and if he is then we're more screwed than I thought.

Refuses to Jump, not sure if thats coaching (Lade) or simply thats he rucks, has poor vertical lift, gives away too many ruck infringements... id no more than a 5 % relief ruckman.

Excellent thread title.

At this desperate hour, I'd be happy enough with a 7 footer who can't quite crack the NBA.

At least he'd have the size and probably a degree of athleticism. If he can't mark, kick, handball or read the play, then we're about where we are already, but at least with size.

Surely there's another Ben Hudsen type playing in the WAFL, SAFL, NEAFL , VFL or other domestic comp. Find him and then draft a few talented kids to develop.

Or break open that war chest and get Mummy.

Id be tempted just to say to Griffiths and Vickery that they'll be the ruckmen for the rest of the season.
Give opportunities up forward to Chol & McBean.
Need to start the transition away from Maric and Hampson who both should be off the list next season.

Agree. Throw them at it. iVan can play forward pocket. Hampson can play when it's blowing a gale

Is Chol on the main list or is he on the rookie list?

I want to see him being given a chance but we have to wait for a long term injury to happen don't we? And no I'm not wishing that upon any of our players.

Agreed mate. Nothing at all to lose on what we're dishing up now in that scenario.

And possibly something to gain.

For those of you who are praising Grundy, do you not remember Hampson pantsing him?

Grundy just ain't that good.

I'll say it again
In the 2013 trade period we took Hampson for pick 32
Mummy went to GWS for pick 35

Obviously there would have been negotiations between Syd & GWS earlier on in the year, but we should have been in his managers ear as well with a big fat cheque book.
