Still scratching my head how Dees win the flag & suddenly are opening the season..
Us & Carlton have had the opening game for over a decade but now been bumped off the front page.
As I've said before I think we should ditch the concept now.
Enough of Thursday footy. Mix it up & let other clubs play midweek.

The GF replay concept isn't a bad one but it kinda makes our match against the Blues less relevant.
Hopefully next season we're playing in the GF replay.
Agree ToO.

Better to have a lucky dip and get whoever.

Scum will beat us sometime (hopefully not this year). One day they will build themselves up for their premiership game enough to win (but not this year ;))

Isn't the justification is because their supporters missed seeing the granny?

See I think the GF replay is a ridiculous concept.

It’s only a GF replay if the same two sides play in a GF. It’s just an opportunity to push the ridiculous revenge narrative a la Adelaide in 2018, when no Adelaide person on this earth would consider winning the next meeting in any way satisfying.

Agree - would hate it even if I was a supporter of either team. Most neutral supporters are over all the hype and follow-up discussions of those two teams as well.

Say we played the Dees in a GF, it then just adds more spice to the Anzac Eve game which is much better than rocking up again first game of the year.

The tradition of playing the blues round 1 is great - even when we were losing during the mid 2000s.

I’m up for letting the dumpires over-officiating the new rules against them and being told to calm down for all other games in the round.
I’m still scarred from the 5 goals Carlton got from 5 ridiculous 50m penalties

Reckon a GF replay in the first round in the first game is as boring as all hell. You’ve just seen them both play before. You’re watching them play again …2 x in a row. Zzzzzzz.

Let them play when they’re into some rhythm and routine of the season.
That's right. Let the tension build up, then again, they're not rivals anyway. Just another laughable dumb idea from Gill the Dill.

It is two Melbourne teams this year, so it should be a good turn-out for Wednesday.
The TV ratings will attract neutrals too.
Every Melbourne fan worth their salt would want to see the pennant.

Herald-Sun is saying Graham for RD 2, but he is training with the main group and could be a surprise inclusion for RD 1, will come down to how fit he is, mileage in the legs.

Richmond is set to unveil teenager Josh Gibcus, the club’s first top-10 pick since Nick Vlastuin (2012), and Robbie Tarrant (North Melbourne) in a refreshed back six.

Jack Graham (hamstring) will return against Greater Western Sydney in round 2 while co-captain Dylan Grimes is racing the clock to take on Carlton after thumb surgery.

But the arrival of Gibcus and Tarrant has allowed Hardwick to experiment with fullback Noah Balta forward as the Tigers look to add depth following the departures of Callum Coleman-Jones (North Melbourne) and Mabior Chol (Gold Coast).

They will buck the trend and play twin rucks as Toby Nankervis partners with Ivan Soldo, who missed the 2020 flag and all of 2021 with a knee injury.

They teamed up with great effect in the 2019 finals as the Tigers stormed to another premiership.

Liam Baker, who boasts Shane Edwards-like versatility, will join Shai Bolton and Jason Castagna in the forward line, allowing a fitter Dustin Martin to increase his midfield minutes.

Hugo Ralphsmith has also barged his way into the squad, likely to replace Bachar Houli at halfback and shine aerially.

Sacked Blues coach David Teague is now plotting Carlton’s downfall from Hardwick’s box as Richmond’s new forwards coach.

Thursday will mark 3112 days since Carlton beat Richmond, dating back to Chris Judd’s shining moment as a Blue in the 2013 elimination final.

The Tigers have won 11-straight since and enter this season hunting a fourth premiership in six years.

Vlastuin ruled out. Grimes doubtful.

I wasn't able to read the age article but I was able to read it on SMH, so thought id paste it here for others who can't read it on THE AGE

Double trouble: McKay, Curnow to face Tigers, Grimes in fight to be fit

March 13, 2022

Carlton expect key forwards Harry McKay and Charlie Curnow to be fit for selection, while Richmond co-captain Dylan Grimes trained on Sunday and is desperate to take to the field in Thursday night’s blockbuster at the MCG.
The Blues have their main training session on Monday but Coleman medallist McKay (foot) and Curnow (knee soreness) are tracking well. The pair will look to rubber-stamp their fitness, but club officials on Sunday expected the pair to face the Tigers.

Curnow missed the Blues’ five-point win over Melbourne in the AAMI community series clash at Marvel Stadium, and McKay did not play the full match. The Blues announced on February 22 that McKay had a foot problem, but they expressed confidence he would be fit for round one. They believed the time off would help ensure the issue is fixed now and does not become an injury he carries through the season.

Curnow had a minor complaint after an incident in a practice match against St Kilda when he was taken from the field more out of precaution than injury.
The Blues have a tough call to make on Sam Docherty. The former co-captain has made a stirring return from chemotherapy, but the Blues must determine whether he would be better off having another game in the VFL earlier on Thursday. Star defender Jacob Weitering was rested from the Demons’ clash but is also set to return.
Buoyed by their off-season development, revised game plan and the addition of midfield recruits George Hewett and Adam Cerra, the Blues are desperate to end an 11-game skid against the Tigers. They have not beaten Richmond since the 2013 elimination final when they were coached by Mick Malthouse. They last prevailed in what has become their customary round one clash in 2012, when Brett Ratten began his last year as coach.

The Tigers will have to make a call on new co-captain Grimes, who had surgery last week on a fractured left thumb and was in a cast. Grimes has hopes of playing but the Tigers’ medical staff will have significant input on how wise a decision this would be so early in the new season.

Tigers’ senior advisor Neil Balme said Grimes, who trained with the thumb bandaged on Sunday, was keen to play. The Tigers’ match committee met on Sunday, but a final call had yet to be made.
“Grimes is reasonably confident but no certainty. He is very keen, but we won’t take a silly risk on him. He did a bit today [Sunday]. The doc was much more confident today than he had been, but he is still no certainty. It’s just a matter of how he recovers from it,” Balme said.

Fellow defender Nick Vlastuin is nursing a hamstring issue and will likely be ruled out.
Balme said recruit Robbie Tarrant, the former North Melbourne key defender, and star draftee Josh Gibcus were expected to line up. Gibcus, an emerging key defender, has been praised for his athleticism and development over summer, and has spent considerable time manning up veteran Jack Riewoldt.

Geez. Young Gibber's got a head that looks like he's face planted a wall or two. Hope he's got the mongrel to back up the look.

I gotta say TM that pic doesn't even look like him. From all the pics and videos of Josh, it's the total opposite.

Compare it to the tiger's website, below image.

Like the other pic way better, looks to have a touch of the nasty about it. Perhaps the Gibber face planted on a Marlion shirt front at training n his official pic hasn't been updated yet. Don't wanna frighten the future M in L away from the sweet innocent looking young fella.
