A giggle at first glance but sad reality is that they actually have more than we do just not this century!!

The likes of Miller or Biggie aren’t going to make a magical difference. Inexperience.

We have lost Vlastuin and Grimes through injury. And then Astbury and Houli through retirement. That’s shitload of experience gone. They can’t be replaced.

The only other option is starting Balta down back but I can’t see the match committee doing it.

We are going to bank on the players up the ground to do the heavy lifting and deny Carlton entries into their forward 50. It’s pretty cliche but the team who wins the midfield will win this game.
I agree we have at least a temporary weakened defence but if we don't blood these kids they will never get experience in AFL so we will never know if they will make it. I reckon from his one game last year Miller would be a better bet than say Gibcus not because he will be a better player longterm but he has been in the system a fair old while so knows the professional game. We need Tarrant, Broad to really step up and whoever the MC think will fill the hole Vlastuin and Grimes leave. Probably will mean altering our game plan and using Balta as I can't think anyone else suitable right now other than risking the kids. Going to be interesting

Interesting. Had a brief chat with Caro recently.
Both of our families are in media.
She started at the then evening Herald as a cadet in 1978.
My brother began the following year.
She has predicted in The Age today that Richmond will end the home-and-away season on top of the ladder, but not necessarily take the biscuit.

Have to watch out for Kennedy.
Was virtually BOG versus the Dees.
He drifted forward as an offensive side mid, the link to the forwards.
At times, he was virtually left unchecked, no blocker.
Was damaging in the first half, when the game was up for grabs.
With Grimes and Vlaustin out, hopefully Hugo plays as a lateral HBF.
They have a nice mismatch in height between McKay and Fisher, the crumber.
Yes, I saw him play a few good games at the back end of last season, and agree he was good against the Dees.

First one in a while I’m a bit nervous at…. We toy with them at genuine risk the last few years… it’ll be tight

The last 4 years, we’ve faced Carlton being 6 weeks behind them in preparation due to going deep into finals.
Although well underdone, we still managed to account for them in relative comfort.
Not sure why there’s a feint scent of fear on this post.
We’ll beat them by 6 goals.

I see what you are saying DA but this is the best Carlton team we have faced since that elimination final loss was all those years ago.

My thoughts are if we can’t beat Carlton, we may as well start the rebuild.
They won’t make finals.

They'll actually be having a genuine crack to for the first time in a while. Their effort has been pretty poor at times over the last few years.

They may make finals, and they will be busting their guts to do so as they are hoping to be a team on the rise. Richmond will be trying to win as many games as we can and hoping to return to the top 4, but we will be trying to time our run as well. You often notice teams on the rise winning a lot of games early and fade a little - that's ok as this can be a good first step to a successful period where they can contend.

Carlton won't be pushovers, geez we have managed to beat them basically in one burst a couple of times over the last 4-5 years and hold them at bay for the rest of the game. We need to win but Carlton are looking a lot better in terms of getting their act together . . . worst luck.

Yes. It's good to squirrel away early wins because, invariably, there are a few minor shocks during the course of the season, like we saw in 2017, then recover equilibrium.
Each team seeks to improve each year.
Carlton will be desperate to win.
Voss will seek to imprint his own tactical stamp, as players like Zac Williams should start to gel.
I wouldn't say we would "fear" what they do, but would certainly tease it apart and analyse it.

Ok.
We’ll only win by 5 goals

Still scratching my head how Dees win the flag & suddenly are opening the season..
Us & Carlton have had the opening game for over a decade but now been bumped off the front page.
As I've said before I think we should ditch the concept now.
Enough of Thursday footy. Mix it up & let other clubs play midweek.

The GF replay concept isn't a bad one but it kinda makes our match against the Blues less relevant.
Hopefully next season we're playing in the GF replay.

Reckon a GF replay in the first round in the first game is as boring as all hell. You’ve just seen them both play before. You’re watching them play again …2 x in a row. Zzzzzzz.

Let them play when they’re into some rhythm and routine of the season.

If Vasltuin and Grimes miss, I would definitely look to play Balta back until at least 1 of them returns.
