Round 1 2022

Reckon this is the best Carlton team we have played against since that final.
Frigging Nick Duigan...

I can’t see them risking Grimes considering the rumoured balls up over Vlastuins mismanagement.

Sam Docherty getting up to play next week is obviously great news for him. I hope the fairy tale stops there though. We'll need to be ready from the opening bounce.

The last 4 years, we’ve faced Carlton being 6 weeks behind them in preparation due to going deep into finals.
Although well underdone, we still managed to account for them in relative comfort.
Not sure why there’s a feint scent of fear on this post.
We’ll beat them by 6 goals.

Last year we started well but they came home with a head of steam and we just kept them at bay.
The year before they started like a house on fire but we reeled them in at the end. We have certainly had some close nervous games against the blues. I get that we have had more preparation but they cannot be taken lightly.

I think Grimes will play.
Vlustuin won't.
Graham 60/40 that he will play.
Lambert as we know wont.

I wouldn't want two debutants, Brown, on top of Gibcus. Personally can't see it happening that Brown will debut.

Talk tonight that Grimes is a good chance to play. Can’t see it but you never know.

Blues just about the same crap as last year & for first round no antivax Jones & injured gun Walsh. Couple of recruits in Cerra & Hewitt with form. Might be in it till 3/4 time but after that bloodshed.

Can't believe people are shitting themselves against Carlton.
I only watched 10 minutes of the first qtr and they turned the ball 3 times in the backline.
They're shitt. If We lose dynasty is finished

No 1 question for me is how our new look defence holds up.
Stalwarts Astbury & Houli have retired & we're possibly missing Vlastuin & Grimes through injury.
Tarrant has been a fine player but new to our system
Rioli also relatively new in his role.
Gibcus still in development.
Big test for a new look group.

As an extension of that, I dunno if I like the idea of Gibcus being thrown in there first up. First up for a midfielder - no problem. They can do what they can and its no big deal if they don't have much of an impact. But a defender taking a big tall ? If they get lit up it could affect their confidence. Its a lot of pressure to be a key defender, playing on an experienced tall, first up, at 18 years of age in a big game with little to no experience.

Would like to see him learn a bit more, get more experience before being thrown into a key defensive role straight up. Prefer Miller, who with years of experience and knows our system back to front, as a tall option down back in game 1 of the season.

Fair enough each to their own but as I said dynasty teams have something different than the rest, that the rest take several years to catch up.
Melbourne had everything go right and they won it good luck to them but I would be amazed if they win it again.

only 4 teams have gone back to back in 30 years. its bloody hard. And they will have to get past us to do it.

I'm bloody wrapped for him.

i wouldn’t say I am sh!tting myself, but you are kidding yourself if you think this game will be a walk in the park. It will be a very tricky game and we won't have it all our own way.

Additionally, I think we need to get off to a good start this year as we have a bit of a tricky draw early on. I don’t think we have the depth to leave our run late like we did in 2019 and 2020. We need to be 7-4 or 8-3 at the midway point IMO.

I reckon grimes will play. That leaves a replacement for Vlastuin. Think it will be out of Gibcus and Brown.

Not sure Graham will get to the line with no games. I think they know what they get with Pickett and were looking at what Ross and Aarts offer through pre season - think they will go with one or the other.

I go Pickett as a starting winger - purely because of his hurt factor and running capacity. Nobody wants to line up on him.

My side:

Gibcus. Tarrant. Broad.
Rioli. Grimes. Short.
McIntosh. Martin. Pickett.
Edwards. Balta. Bolton.
Riewoldt. Lynch. Baker.

R. Nankervis, Cotchin, Prestia.

I. Soldo, Ralphsmith, Ross/Aarts, Castagna.

You’ve got to wonder about the fall from grace for Sydney Stack who was in our best performing players in the last few rounds of 2021 and is now considered to be bypassed by a first year player in Brown. He must be pretty damn good.

Yeah it’s an interesting situation isn’t it. Plays really well as a small running back end of last year. Comes to the pre season and he is back playing up fwd and Dimma saying they like him as a fwd etc. I think he is in trouble to be honest. He should be a walk up for round 1 this year - and he isn’t.

It's fitness and attitude for him. He would look good from the outside to us but I'm sure internally he isn't meeting set goals and required standards.
