Any thoughts about using Balta at FB in this game (even for just parts of the game) if it turns out that Grimes and Vlaustin are both out?

It‘s going to be a risk if the full back line was to be made up of the likes of Tarrant, Gibcus, Broad, Miller
No chance.

They play Biggie down back ,and he shows flashes , but I wonder how he would go on a wing ?
reckon he could be the fastest player on our list over 50mtrs and could terrorise sides in the big open spaces between the arcs
Besides Richo and Blicavs, can anyone name a true tall that has been an effective wingman?
And what do Richo and Blicavs have in common that allowed them to succeed on the wing? elite endurance, which i doubt the likes of Nyuon and Balta have now or will probably ever have.

Roachy started on the wing, before being moved to full forward. He would've done well if he was left there.

I've been lurking for a while but felt now is as good as any to break the seal and post!

One thing I'm really interested to watch this year is what seems to be the next phase of Dusty's career.

Checking a few B22s it seems now that Dusty is back healthy again and has been mooted for more time in the guts - everyone is happy to pick him onball, whereas over the last few years we've naturally seen him in the now legendary mid/forward "Dusty role".

I didn't see him up forward much, if at all over the PS games. Do we see this as the new norm for him?

I'm sure he'll end up forward at times as he's a weapon, but does anyone else get the sense that Dusty is now going to be that uber high possession mid we've probably lacked (but possibly not really needed) since, well, Dusty back in 2017?

Welcome Frosty.

I hope you're right about Dusty playing more midfield. I reckon he's the obvious gun, ball winning midfielder that so many have been saying we need in the team.
Personally I prefer it when he ghosts into the forward line, rather than when he goes deep, clears out the forward 50 and calls for it to be kicked on his head.

With him and a fit Prestia (not to mention a refreshed Cotch) back in the midfield I think our center square clearance and round the ground stoppage numbers improve. Ok, it's not the future, but let's enjoy it while it lasts.
Also love it when Dusty gets the ball between wing and the 50 when we're in transition and runs it into the forward line. You can see the opposition shitting themselves.

Yep, more Dusty in the midfield for me.

Embley was a taller wingman, not Richo tall though. Embley was 6"2 ish around that 190cm mark.

The G Train may have played a bit on the wing early days too for the Eagles from what I can remember.

Good post Frosty

I'm thinking with Jack, Lynch and Balta forward Dusty might spend more time in the guts. Be nice to see him and Shai in there together a bit more too.

McIntosh is 6'4"-is that a true tall? Maybe not quite.

Jack Graham trained fully yesterday, with a week out from the game I'm starting to think he is more likely than not to play.

New team for round 1 please Smoking!! @Smoking Aces
No problem but its starting to get tricky down back.

I am assuming Vlastuin, Grimes and Lambert wont play. But Graham will get there considering they have be putting the miles into his legs and another full training session unscathed.

FB: Mansell Tarrant Broad
HB: Short Gibcus Rioli
C: Mcintosh Martin Ross
HF: Edwards Balta Baker
FF: Bolton Riewoldt Lynch
Foll: Nankervis Prestia Cotchin
Int: Castsgna Graham Ralphsmith Soldo
Sub: Aarts
Emerg: Miller, Sonsie, Pickett, Stack

I thought hard about bringing in another tall but I think we will opt for another runner/small in Mansell. Carlton will push their smalls up the ground and try to lock it in their F50. We are going to have to rely on Tarrant, Gibcus and Broad to take their talls. Balta the back up option but I cant see us starting Balta back considering the work put in over summer and last weeks performance in playing up forward.
