Vlas is just about our best defender and best intercept,he would be first few picked.

Vlastuin played small when we had Rance/Astbury, td. And, I reckon thrives on the small role. Vlas is a late bloomer too, imo.

But there will be pressure and we won't know until we test.
Speed on the front lawn.
Its back in fashion. Again.
We have it covered with Shorty, Prince Rioli, Stacky, Mansell. Not forgetting Grimes.

Notice that Nick isn't included. That's going to be his big test.
His back will appreciate not having to play key

Sublime.
It does raise the question - what's the impact on Vlastuin?
Just like getting big Tom Lynch pushed out Caddy, will Flossy be squeezed?
No doubt Flossy is an important player, in 2018 we wouldve argued the same for Josh.
But now we will have greater aerial control and so turn attention to rapid ground support.

FWIW I don't think Nick will be out of the back 6, but his role will be changed and we may see less impact

Not a chance.

We used to have Rance and Astbury as our tall back, Grimes on the best small, Vlas and Broad as mediums and Houli and Short as small backs. Its moved a bit over the last 5 years but this is how I see it.

When Rance went out, Grimes needed to move taller to replace him. We now have Balta in the Rance role, Grimes can go back to that smaller role or play taller when teams play 3 talls against us (and Broad doesn't match up well, sometimes Broad will man that 3rd tall).

Bringing in 1 older player is a bit different to bringing in older players as a policy, looks ok to me as long as we keep our early draft picks and hopefully pick up some decent youngsters.

Not sure how you can’t see the logic in this? If we didn’t get one of Tarrant or Talia then it would have been poor list management to go into next year with just Balta and Grimes.
100% agree with this. We need a ready made key defensive backman now as a stop gap for the next few years whilst still in the window. If we weren’t then go all young kids.

Was initially negative about taking a 32 y.old instead of the younger Talia. However, reading all the informed comments here, have come around to it. I have always rated him as a quality KPD and we definitely needed a trusty one for the big gorillas (a lot of 2m KPFs getting around these days) while Miller makes progress hopefully, and packs on some size. His is a better choice as long as he stands up for 2 years.

It's still not making feel any better for losing both potential forward/ruck options, CCJ and Chol, to tide us over when JR8 goes. But allows the greater chance to swing Balta forward now. That starts to work for me. Just maybe Cumberland comes on too.

What? Tarrant will be handy but isn't in the same league as Nick. And no, it's not even kind of the same as Lynch and Caddy.

WTF? Vlastuin becomes even more important because he’s freed up. He’s our best ball user out of the backline. And great as an interceptor.

Can we add 'out we come, out we come to play" " to where from Tigerland"?
Maybe Join in the chorus #lolnorf's got no balls.

Guess if we gotta plug a hole now that Dave's left, it was always going to be an older freebie while keeping all our picks for the draft.
One can only hope that both Cholly n Cujo fail miserably now they've decided to move elsewhere, nothing personal of course but once they remove the Tigers jumper, *smile* em.
Was hoping to get a look at the Cummerbund on the big stage late this year, pity it didn't happen. Takes marks, moves well, kicks goals n got an honest snippet of mongrel about his game. Can see him in a similar role to Cadds in recent years bit of mid n medium forward.

What we do will start a trend.
What's Stkilda's excuse Frawley, Ryder and Hannebury
Geelong have recruited pensioners in front of kids for years now.
Brisbane?
Tarrant will be ok, we had 6 blokes on the list last year that were totally useless.
Applaud the recruiting guys on this one

He wasn’t switching teams for a one year deal. North ended up offering him two years. Had to be at Least two years to get him. Simple as that.

well I guess it just requires a modification of @jb03 's rule of thumb .......

don't attend auctions for 32yo's?

but I hope he wins the Norm Smith, like Brian Harris-Lumbumba-Coleman-Jones-Lake did

what was DTLD thinking?

Its funny what happens when a player wants to play for us they're instantly loved and superstar
True. Didn’t think much of him before. Didn’t really know much about him to be honest.
But………since he announced he wants to come to us I’ve been looking over his career and how he hasn’t won at least one Brownlow and earned a few all Australian selections, I’ll never know. I’m flabbergasted :))

How come Grimes does not get mentioned in your table in 20 or 21?

We bring in one as a direct replacement for an older player, so it's hardly a change to the team make-up.
Its a status quo change, if that makes sense

To be clear I,m not rating Tarrant over Vlastuin. It's more about size and backline mix.
Nick spent most of this year manning blokes a foot taller, he did well but was fighting out of his weight division. We know this.
He now goes back to the mid size role. Which is no longer there.
All I am saying is that will disrupt the mix
