Robbie Tarrant

This is hopefully our Brian Lake moment. Don't listen to anyone sprouting we are turning into Geelong, this is a free hit. Cost us cap space only and fills a pressing need. This is 100% the right move. Sure there is risk associated with it but I'd do this as well. If Taz can back to 80% of his peak, it's a huge win. Only looking for finals + 15 games from him.

Bravo to the club for working in silence for so long on this. Us nuffies tend to think that if we don't hear of things happening then nothing is going on. These signings don't happen overnight. Well done Blair and co.

I think it ticks boxes, good money ball move for next couple of years, I think too this is a free hit.
I agree he is no worse then DTLD, and if Talia comes it brings in that tertiary cover as well, which allowd Miller time and if they already know draft in another tall def.

Bringing in 1 older player is a bit different to bringing in older players as a policy, looks ok to me as long as we keep our early draft picks and hopefully pick up some decent youngsters.

DS
Agree - Tarrant/Talia makes sense for a specific need. As long as we’re not taking multiple old players after making a decision not to re-contract Houli. Like the look & principle of taking best midfielder as our first Rd 1 pick & key forward with our second Rd 1 pick if possible.

Tarrant will be 33 early next season (25/4/2022). History shows us that it takes an exceptional player and/or athlete to play to a high standard after the age of 32. By 32 most players are cooked. It is imo a massive leap of faith by the recruiters at RFC to put a lot of faith in a 33 year old (who would most likely take the biggest forward opponent each week) and it has an air of desperation and short sightedness to it. Could Tarrant match it playing on the very tall and very athletic King brothers for example. Personally I would prefer to give Miller or Nyuon a good run at it early next season.
Having to rely on Biggie or Miller means Grimes, Balta and Broad have to work harder to cover their deficiencies while they learn the game. That will shorten Grimes and Broad’s careers and means that Balta can’t move from defence. Tarrant buys us time to develop the younger players, although I doubt Miller will with one game in 5 years.

I don’t quite understand why anyone would be concerned about securing Tarrant. He will cost us nothing in a trade, bugger all in $$ and fills a massive hole we have and allows us to draft a key back to develop or allow Miller to develop further. If we gave up pick 26 and $500k p/yr I would be upset, but we haven’t.

Understand the logic of getting 1 x big KD to replace Dave. Now no need to pursue Talia.

U will feel completely orgasmic after our best early draft haul in 12 years which will include 2 talented kps,2 talented mids.
You certainly seem to be very excited just in anticipation. It all depends on what quality is in the draft and nailing the picks. What's our recent track record on first picks since we got Vlastuin correct? Doesn't get me that hot. The likes of Lennon, CEllis and the waste of Higgins (ignoring O. Allen).

One of the toughest years ever to get right with so little U18 matches to base selection on after 2 Covid years. Going to be a bit of a lucky dip, but hope it proves climactic for all RFC fans, and not a case of premature thrills!

I would also like us (pending physical) to go after Talia.

Tarrant can play, although prone to sillu decision making at times but a good player, player vs player i see him as an upgrade on Dave.

Given our last 3 years of injuries it really does take a club to win flags, as most have agreed with we are light after Dave retiring and if we can get 15-20 + finalsm games out of a talie/tarrant combo we would be covered in Defence.

Mid is the area we really need Dow, Ross & RCD to come on, even with our great draft hand without grabbing a a good one in offseason we will be light on for a tilt as Dion/Cotch/Edwards etc are also 10-20 + finals propositions and as we saw this year we just didnt have the depth to cover such great players out all at one time, we need to bolster Mids urgently to push again.

Forwards i think we need a teague or a different forwards coach, we have enough firepower IMO, lets hope they can sort these two things out and i think we are well placed to contend again.

Tarrant is good mates with Coleman Jones.
Expecting CJ to stay now.
How do you know that? Seems odd - 10 years apart in age and different clubs?
Sounds like wishful thinking; deal's virtually a done thing from most accounts.

Interestingly it looks like we might have had an interest in Tarrant for quite a while if you read the article below from 2 July 21.

Especially the line - NORTH Melbourne coach David Noble expects veteran Robbie Tarrant to retire a one-club player despite expected interest in the key defender from premiership contenders.
