Robbie Tarrant

Hardwick is a very smart operator.
He has seen enough of the duds like Ratonmygear and Ladhmans play career best games against us.
Talia and Tarrant are players that will plug those holes.
Kennedy's best game of the year was against.
Ratmygear was AA after playing us
Collingwoods Cameron best game against us.

Tarrant plays more like tall Vlastuin than like Astbury. And nothing like Talia. If Tarrant were 29 I'd be pretty happy.

And it's not that Tarrant couldn't play The Plug. That's not a hard role for a bloke of his talent. It's that he would usually be better used higher with a licence to get there - which is what he does best. And he's a sweet mover.

But at 42 years of age it's possible that we do drop him into the plughole. This would be less a strain on his body and might prolong his career. And given the length of his venerable grey whiskers it might be more realistic than asking him to Lake it up.

One more thing about Tarrant, in his old age he got better one on one. And maybe just better overall.

That said, I'm still not in love. I'll be interested to see how things pan out. And ideologically I'm in favour of topping up with geriatrics when in the window. (We'd be in one of them.) But it's gotta be the right gerrie. They gotta play.

On gerries specifically at Geelong, how did Isaac Smith go in the finals? Bats real high at Geelong. Nothing wrong with the idea. Cf, the youthful Gary Rohan.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating. Let's hope Blair's not eating it next year.

Heroic recruiting.

Still played well when he came back this season. I’m not against this move at all. Think he has a fair bit to offer even if it’s for a short time. The window is now.

I like the post for mainly because you said "the proof of the pudding is in the eating" rather than the incorrect way so many say "the proof is in the pudding".

You didn't like plughole, strain, (length of) whiskers, Lake, tim? (I spent two paragraphs setting that up.)

Perfectly understandable. :shiteatinggrin

if we get only two years from him and we win a flag in those years, it's worth it. So strategically, it may be a master stroke. we have strengthen our backline, no doubt about it, now comes the further development of our young kids and the draft (if we can get 4 kids within the first 20 picks, it would be amazing. We have 2, maybe a swap with north for their 20th and work magic for the other.

I am, but offering a 32 year old 2 years,

is way more than twice as bad as offering a 30 yo a 2 yr deal.

Not saying its a disaster, or that Robbie might not get a premiership medal,

but if im being honest,

It rocks my confidence in the recent adage,

that everything the rfc does, is the right thing to do.

to be honest, Robbie Tarrant is one of those players that ive never ever noticed play.
He wasn’t switching teams for a one year deal. North ended up offering him two years. Had to be at Least two years to get him. Simple as that.

His body should be feeling pretty good as he didn't play a real lot of games this year. I reckon this pudden is a gooden.

32 is number for me if his fit and not injured no issue his playing great footy still very underrated.

I’ll go with it but am not sure that our defence was our problem this year. Midfield, forwards were terrible. I don’t think our window is still open. My fear is that we continue to load up on old fellas and don’t rebuild properly. But I will be very happy to be wrong.

Stat's might show a different story.
The flow on effect with Grimes Vlastuin and Broad is huge. They're not playing above their weight constantly.

Gun player is tarrant

still playing at an elite level
Very durable over the last 5/6 years .

hopefully he stays fit ,

Im excited that we are clearly going for the flag again.

4 flags in 6 years would be insane
This is right. I think we owe it to our heroes to keep the window open a little longer.

Its funny what happens when a player wants to play for us they're instantly loved and superstar

Unstoppable force with a stacked and elite backline. Grimes Tarrant Broad Balta Vlaustin Stack Short Mansell Rioli. Then a much improved forward line with a fit Lynch, Riewoldt still good for 35+, Balta and Stack pinch hitting for 20+ goals, Maurice Jnr and naturally Dusty. The two genuine rucks in Nank and Soldo. Midfield runs deep and is elite when all are fit. Adding a clearance player is the key. Add an easier draw and games back at the G and we are genuine force again.

My best mate barracks for North and has bragged about Tarrant for ages. Guess I should have been paying attention. I just thought when your club is irrelevant you hang onto anything that provides a reasonable spark. Oh well, if we win a flag and CJ turns out to be just average, this will bring me many hours of joy for years.

Its going to be a tough backline to get into.
You've named 9 blokes and we normally pick 7 in the team :D
The mix will be interesting.

Taz Balta for the talls
Flossy and Grimes intercepts
Shorty Rioli smalls.
Broad the 7th to cover all slots.

Sublime.
It does raise the question - what's the impact on Vlastuin?
Just like getting big Tom Lynch pushed out Caddy, will Flossy be squeezed?
No doubt Flossy is an important player, in 2018 we wouldve argued the same for Josh.
But now we will have greater aerial control and so turn attention to rapid ground support.

FWIW I don't think Nick will be out of the back 6, but his role will be changed and we may see less impact

Vlastuin played small when we had Rance/Astbury, td. And, I reckon thrives on the small role. Vlas is a late bloomer too, imo.

But there will be pressure and we won't know until we test.
