Robbie Tarrant

Is Tarrant any chance of a compo pick? If so then we could use this as a little bit of leverage in the CJ trade. If they sign CJ in PSD then we will sign Tarrant in PSD.

Not overly fussed with getting Tarrant, but it's a definite shift in our strategy over the last few successful years.

ready made Round 1 defender. A very good defender. Our bounty of picks still in tact, Dont need to rely on a drafted 19yo kid who is 10-15kg away from his potential. Talia younger but shot knees???

I cant help thinking the Tarrant move is somehow connected with CCJ wanting to go there. Maybe a little bit over leverage for some pick swaps with us aiming to get their pick 20.

Getting Tarrant fills a current gap. A lock down defender that can free up Grimes, Broad, Balta and others to play their more natural roles. We've struggled one on one in defence this year.

What it also tells us that we want to contend next year, so it's not a case of rebuild or top up...it's both! If we're contending again, we'll need some help in the midfield, so there might be more trade activity. And exciting that we'll keep our draft picks and top up with young talent.

That’s because our situation has changed e.g. premiership champions at the end of their careers. Doesn’t mean it is deviating from our overall strategy.

Everything isn’t equal with regards to age. A 36 year old polled 20 Brownlow votes last night…
Ronaldo has justed kicked his 3rd goal in 2 games. While Messi 2 yrs younger got subbed out after half time.
If Tarrant looks after his body and our team can put him through a good preseason, i can't see how this anything but very good recruiting strategy to fill a spot in our side.

Think Tarrant is based on need.

Say if Richmond wanted to keep the Chol compensation & do a deal with North with CCJ & Tarrant n the trade period the irony is that Richmond could also pick up Tarrant in the PSD meaning that North get no free agent compensation for him most likely Pick 39 (Band 5).

Pretty sure both teams will work out things amicably though.

I hope so. Ideally it would be CCJ and a pick in the 40s for Tarrant and their pick 20. It’s undervaluing CCJ but they have pick 1 in the PSD so we don’t have a lot of leverage.
Tarrant recruiting would have been better if he was a couple of years younger but it all comes down to his fitness and longevity in the end. Get 2 years from him and he is a great Dave replacement.

Richmond might work a deal with North where we take Tarrant in the Free Acency period if North get a compensation pick = pick 39. We forego the Chol pick likely.

If the AFL deamed no compensation for Tarrant then we do a deal with North for say pick 40 (or Chol compensation whatever is higher) & CCJ for Tarrant & pick 20 in the trade period.

So either way it would be a 3rd round pick + CCJ for Norths second round.

I think we will struggle to get a good deal out of North.

I suspect if Tarrant won't get a compo pick, it may be Pick 20 and Tarrant, for CCJ and Pick 28 and we keep the Chol compo.

What do you think is a realistic trade then? We will not get anywhere near full value for CCJ so just seeing what may make sense for us.

Getting the scenario I suggested would get us Pick 20. If we use our other picks partly for the Dogs 1st then we could go to the draft with 7, 15, 17 and 20 and probably move something into next years draft.

Like most am fine with Tarrant coming across. Very good player who fills a hole we don't have.

Gives us a lot of flexibility with how we play Balta. He was below par in the backline this year and a move up the ground, midfield perhaps could be a masterstroke.

Lunacy ILO to still also get in Talia like a few have mentioned. For a number of good reasons.

I think we will be very fortunate if we get pick 20 in any deal to be honest. North have total control due to the PSD threat. We have to hope they can get someone else interested in a move to them and then it might be different.

Honestly not sure how I feel about this.
Great player at his best but a couple of years older than the guy who just retired.
Fingers crossed it works out.
Tarrant was only half fit having missed first half of year and finished in better form than DA , his last game aside . DA retired of his own accord and listening to him on sen and the convo he had with rutten it was a measured decision
