Richmond vs St Kilda - Game Day Thread

Unfortunately the poor drafting over the last 5 years has not helped. I know we haven’t had early picks. But there have been a lot of fails.

The past five seasons have gone far too quickly ... I had only just got used to Richmond being a dominant, powerhouse team.
I liked it, liked it a lot.
Don't much like what Dimma and the Tigers have dished up last season and soi far this year.

Gutless effort on the field and in the coaches box after half-time.
We are not going anywhere again this season. Real contenders will destroy us. It feels like 1984.

Ah well. It’s been a great ride. Just disappointing we’ve fallen off a cliff so badly, so quickly. We’re not gonna be like Geewhinge and stay competitive it seems.

And the re build is bigger than we think. Our 3rd and 4th year players on our list are very mediocre.
True.
And the rebuild can’t start until Dimma leaves, given his unstinting loyalty to senior players like Cotch and Shedda.
As I said after R1, we look tired and uninspired.
Youth normally the antidote but our year 2-4 playing group are busts, and apart from Gibcus and the Sonz it’s probably too soon for the other class of 2021.

I’m not really sure what everyone was expecting from us this year.

This team has gone to the well for us to reap 3 flags in 4 years. A massive effort.

As a consequence we have some very satisfied souls. And who could blame them?

Coupled with the fact the key players in that run are either retired, too old for the modern game or not playing due to injury or personal circumstances.

We are victims of our own success, but we have set the wheels in motion for a quick bounce.

A year of pain in 2021/2022 could well see us pushing finals again in 2024 and thereafter.

We have been spoilt, we had a dream run, and we rode it for all it was worth.

But it’s time to accept we need to build again for, hopefully, another tilt like we just had.
All good points. Real question though is Dimma still the man to take us there again?

Benny is the key factor there. He has a good finger on the pulse and will be critical to how we re set …and with who.
If he's read and learnt on how Belichick succeeded for 20 years, I hope he's understanding it properly.

Dimma needs to make the hard calls on a few senior players they a struggling and cannot run out games the past is past we need to rejuvenate and blend the kids in.To loyal to his troops George ,Ross ,Aarts how isn't RCD getting a game.

Fitness major concern last 2 seasons big drop off running out games and injuries what's the issue there ?. Teams get a run on we cannot even try to stem the flow.

Umpiring is not the issue for 10 straight goals.Cut this crap moving players out of position doesn't work with all Baker was one of the best back pockets in our successful era yet now we decided no play him up forward.

Problem is we can’t play Edwards or Cotchin forward as they’re just too slow. Ball is rebounding out far too quickly with Lynch & a ruckman up there as it is.

Everything starts an ends with midfield though. We have two wingers & no rotation options. We have a slow, small bodied midfield with few tricks. Diabolical situation to be in.

Yeah a lot of that’s true, but it doesn’t seem to affect Geelong Don. Gale is on record as saying they want to constantly be competitive. No re builds.

That’s not gonna be the case. And it’s gonna be a pretty reasonable re build to undertake too. Especially through the midfield and up forward.

I can handle us losing , particularly after such good times , but that was white flag stuff , A bit like the dark days , I found that disappointing

I reckon another couple of high end drafts where all picks are nailed is going to be required.

The worrying part is keeping blokes like Shai and Noah and Gibcus if we sit in the basement for a couple of years racking up those draft picks.
Not worried about that. Not saying they will but if they want to leave then we get overs compensation. Trade hard. No more nice guy at trade week stuff. Melbourne was a basket case so it took them longer than it should have but look at them now with all of those top end draft picks. If players want to leave fine but let’s get great compensator them.

Spot on. Midfield and forward line.

Hopefully Shedda builds as the season goes on. I don't want to feel like I'm watching Ali vs Larry Holmes.
Possibly the most accurate analogy I have ever read. This won’t be the last time this happens this season. We will have some horror losses this year

Another thing we have lost in spades is toughness and roughness. We no longer tackle with intent. We no longer tackle to hurt.

^Our older players are finished
Cotchin Edwards Prestia Riewoldt
^Our best player dosent want to play.
^ Besides Balta & Bolton the cupboard is bare.
Some of the picks are useless and it dosent help when 6 or 7 years of quality picks have either walked out the door or just been sooo shittt they gave been dellisted.

Collingwoobles get blown off the park by Geeeelong and they feel like they are on the right path.
Do we have that same feeling today?
