Richmond vs St Kilda - Game Day Thread

Too old. Too young. Too slow. Too disinterested.
Not enough heart. Not enough talent.
We will regret not forcing a couple more hands to follow Houli.
Good news is the rebuild already started last draft, but we have a long way to go.
See ya at the top again in approx 10 years if all goes perfectly.

I mentioned earlier he had staged twice already
There are soooooo many instances of this happening in the game these days its a matter of "just dealing with it, nothings changing now" .... said it would be coached into the players as soon as this "head is sacrosanct" bullshite rule was introduced, the game has turned into soccer almost with all the acting for free's, real shame, we once had a genuinely hard, tough unique spectacle, but that is long gone unfortunately.

The rot really started against the Eagles last year. 4 goals up with 10 minutes to ago and we curled up our toes. Then after the bye the Saints destroys at our home ground. We kicked 2 goals for the entire game. We have never looked like a good team since that Eagles game.

That’s 2 games in a row the Saints have embarrassed us. St.Kilda that is. They are *smile*.

We are in a bad way.
Go back further than that. 9pts up at half time against Geelong I. Round 8 last year. Lose by 11 goals. Or even round 3 last year against Sydney where they completely overran us in the second half.

This has been happening for a while now.

I’m not really sure what everyone was expecting from us this year.

This team has gone to the well for us to reap 3 flags in 4 years. A massive effort.

As a consequence we have some very satisfied souls. And who could blame them?

Coupled with the fact the key players in that run are either retired, too old for the modern game or not playing due to injury or personal circumstances.

We are victims of our own success, but we have set the wheels in motion for a quick bounce.

A year of pain in 2021/2022 could well see us pushing finals again in 2024 and thereafter.

We have been spoilt, we had a dream run, and we rode it for all it was worth.

But it’s time to accept we need to build again for, hopefully, another tilt like we just had.

What a mess.

Obvious move was Balta down back. Instead we crucified a third gamer on opposition key forward. Disgraceful coaching.

Then we play Balta in the ruck when we already have two ruckman. No creativity to change midfield mix, ball pinging out of our forward 50 time & again, backline wilted, game over.

Real issue is midfield. Edwards is done, Cotchin can only play 2-3 quarters and rest either too slow or not good enough. Can’t solely be pinned on Martin & Prestia not playing.

Sides get on these rolls.
The comp is very even. We have come back to the pack.
It's round 3.
All good.

Frustrating lack of imagination kicking into the forward 50. Way too predictable and the big forwards didn't separate. Balta needs to be taught to explode on a lead and the other forwards needs to work to create space for him.

We were just on 3 goals up well into the third quarter and then Pickett gave a stupid free and goal to the saints.
Never in it from therin.
Sad day and I hate to say it but we look very much like a middle of the road team this year.

Yeah but we need to start selecting bona fide midfielders. We have been absolutely destroyed in the midfield 2 out of 3 games.

Middle of the road is optimistic.

If the trend continues, then we got to retire cotch, Edwards,as too much cap is wasted with these 2 declining champions whom are getting flogged most weeks .

I agree that some big decisions on player retirements need to occur, selections too but it’s a bit over the top going on a sack the coach campaign. All our senior players are injured or cooked and dusty is missing. This is how it goes when you are on top for 4 years. Now we need to recruit well and go into development mode.

The best ideas never come from moments like now

Persistence with our older champs will unfortunately cost us another season
I don’t agree with you often Dimma but this is spot on. This happens after most teams dynasties, coaches struggle to let go of their champions.
Legends of the club but Sheds, Cotch, JR8 all finished. Nothing to be gained from playing any of them. The longer they hang around the longer it takes to develop the next generation.
Time to acknowledge our run is over and a big freshen up is needed.
Don’t get me started on Aarts and George

I reckon another couple of high end drafts where all picks are nailed is going to be required.

The worrying part is keeping blokes like Shai and Noah and Gibcus if we sit in the basement for a couple of years racking up those draft picks.
