Rich V Carl - Match Day Thread

Who was in the Ponsford stand last night? At the end of half time/early 3rd quarter, some guy collapsed in front of me. He put himself in the coma position while about 10-12 cops and seccos stood around him. not one of them offered assistance or made any attempt to assist. I reckon about 6-7 minutes passed. no ambos. Very little movement from the cops and seccos. I said more than once to them “do something.” But not one of them even acknowledged me.

Then the guy got up on his own, started walking, while the cops and seccos followed him towards the exit.i don’t know what happened after that.

Yes, it's only RD 1, and we can regroup but some concerning signs.

What irked me the most was the undisciplined acts. 8 fifty meter penalties which resulted in 4 goals, that's the ball game right there.

The Match committee made some errors. Soldo 5 disposals, I thought we went in to top-heavy. Balta can alternate with nank in the ruck and nank can go forward when balta is trucking to keep the 3 tall forward line.

I don't care how many disposals Ross or Aarts had, lack of skill and pace is not what you need to combat these rule changes.

Need more run and carry which Ralphsmith provided when he came on.

Both short and rioli don't provide much pressure and if I had to pick one it would be short. Rioli also not providing enough run like Houli used to.
I want to see more mongrel and desperation in the backline which Mansell can provide in spades as a small running defender.

Get RCD in the midfield, heck get Dow to while you are at it. Hoping Stack can get his fitness levels up pronto as need his class and toughness in the side.
Parker ain't the most skilled but he is super quick and puts pressure on, he won't die wondering.

Smashed out of the middle, Kennedy and Cripps are both over 190 cms tall. Our mids look like midgets compared to the blues.

Our tall backs did well blues-only got 1 goal 'Mckay" compared to our tall forwards Jack, Lynch and Balta who kicked 5, which could've been 7-8 goals as jack missed two and Lynch 1.

So I believe we can fix the smaller running player issue (Ross, Aarts, Rioli who do not provide enough hard running), but the midfield issue worries me more, must-win clearances. Dimma has acknowledged this in his presser but for Cotchin, Edwards and Graham to only have 14 disposals is well below par when compared to the blues mids who all had over 30. Baker is a forward to small for centre clearances.

Not writing off our boys by a long shot but I will say that dimma needs to make some hard calls on some of the older folks when not performing which I'm not sure he will.

I agree but the sides not cooked, just midfield problems and Carlton could vary well make finals, even top4-6.
Were impressive.

I'm still not sure they play finals. Their MIDFIELD is very impressive, but if their midfield kick less goals (we were awful at defending that last night, a lot down to the 50's), then who kicks their goals if McKay is kept quiet as he was last night. I also think their defence is poor, we exposed that at times last night (quarters 1 and 3) but we didn't get it forward enough.

If to win, they need to win CP by 20+, clearances by 15+ and inside 50's by 20+ every game, then they won't be playing finals.

Just looking at a few of our players (younger mids) on the app, most are not 190cm, only RCD. They all seem to be in the 180s or even less.

With Australian Footy being a contested game the future looks to be big, tall, strong mids who can also run. That's a lot to ask for but we need to be aware of the demands of the current game.

Funnily enough, when I was sat at the MCG last night, I was thinking about him and how it was the 1st game we had since his passing.

Not sure why ppl are getting stuck into Tarrant. While the decision to draft him could be argued he kept Mckay to 1 goal and very quiet all night. Usually with the amount of midfield ball the Blooz got someone like Mckay would in other years have had a field day. Miller for Gibcus is the one that needs scrutiny for me.
My biggest fear is MC are going to be too stubborn to make the early calls we can all see and we will waste a whole season till they realise certain players are not up to it

Sure it wasn't our midfield? Sounds like our midfield in the last quarter.

If so, it should've been reported before the game. Who knows? This AFL is a shambles.

Apparently they all tested negative with the test before the game, but then tested positive after the game had been completed

So Voss picked it from someone else during the game who wasn't noticed?
