Rich V Carl - Match Day Thread

Yeah the other one missed before was disciple.

Following on from last year we continue to be selfish and egotistical with our lack of discipline.

Delete old guard so Val when ready, Balta, Baker Stack should always play back. Mr Poshman your comment noted with disdain.

Sorry probably still a bit prickly after last night.

Intrigued though why you'd play Balta back when we have Tarrant and Gibcus that did a good job there. I felt Balta nearly turned the game in our favour in the 3rd quarter. It was a strange game as all 4 quarters were totally different, but in the 1st we scored well due to matching them at the contest. The 2nd that broke down, and therefore we struggled to hold the ball forward, there was a bit of double teaming of Lynch / Jack. 3rd we dominated inside their 50, no 2nd man up so their inexperienced defenders then had to infringe which they did regularly in that quarter. The move of Balta forward was the catalyst for that. With Jack out now, there is no way we will move Balta back now.

Not sure I agree on Bakes either, reckon he's a gun at either end. Stack should be in the team.

I think you are focusing on the wrong thing, we didn't lose because of the defensive line or our forward line (in fact I reckon we beat Carlton within both arcs) but we lost due to the midfield being trounced and our ill discipline.

I cal BS. All the talk was that we were refreshed after finally having some time to recover, and a full preseason having started earlier. No excuses for being less fit than Carlturd.
Yep. Refreshed and rejuvenated was all the talk. Was Nank right? Poor decision by MC to play Graham. Reckon you may play a key tall first up R1 but not the mids. They need touch and run. Once Prestia's cameo ended we were exposed.

Brown and Sonsie will play plenty of footy this year imo.

Brown will be in the side soon enough they want him in.

We need skill and pace, and the youngsters who can deliver will be coming in to refresh the side as soon as they are ready.

The side may well be cooked, mentally or physically or both and if they are that's ok, its been a great ride but it needs to be addressed much earlier than we left it last year.

Next week will tell more, if we get rolled by the Gee Whiz at home its looking ominous even at round 2.
I agree but the sides not cooked, just midfield problems and Carlton could vary well make finals, even top4-6.
Were impressive.

Ross was poor on the wing, several turnovers.
Panicked under pressure, kicked the ball down the line to a tall intercept.
Could have handballed inboard to a better streaming option.
KMac is light years ahead, in terms of composure and decision making.
He was missed in terms of deliberation.

Blind Freddy could see this happening.
Going into a new season relying on soldiers like Prestia Big V Cotchin Edwards and lambo.
If our focus was purely on contending again why would they use 5 picks all on kids?
That was the time to go after Omeara and maybe chase harder for Green.
Can't Believe people are in shock.
This was always going to happen but 10 mins into the 2nd qtr is a bit more then I even expected.
Should be clear as day to all and sundry Z. We need a strategy to help transition from our fragile ageing greats.

Don't want this club to fall into the mist of mediocrity for the next 30 yrs again.

We need to find a way to contend yr after yr.

The old guard? Who? Astbury and Houli? Rance? Vlastuin is injured. Tarrant and Gibcus kept McKay and Silvagni to one goal a piece. I Thought they did their job. In my opinion the backline wasn’t the issue.
Not convinced about the transition from defence. Reckon the newbies present a connection issue. Bakes needs play D50 and Rioli F50.

Bloose fans all excited on SEN like they won the GF. It's understandable though. They have the right coach to make them better now.

The game was completely lost in midfield
Cotch, Edwards, Graham all 14 touches
Their opponents all 30 touches plus,
That's 90 to 42 touches,a complete hiding,and unacceptable,u can't win a game with a mid thrashing.

Yep, flogged again where the game starts. We read brilliantly with Cotch, Shedda, Dusty, JG, Shai, Nank etc, yet loose centre clearances abysmally. Why?
Our turnover game plan from the back half that netted 3 magnificent flags is yesterday.
That was evident from last year. No improvement in Rd 1 2022.
In trying to eke out another flag, don’t know if our champion vets are up to it, or our game plan just has not evolved.
I disagree with trying to etch another flag as like, that's all we done.
We actually have gone deep into the juniors and drafted a lot of young guys,
Looking towards the future.
Without doubt when jack cotch retire we could look at a ready made mid that's not too old,it's not that bad yet,the 3 flags are in the bag.

Agree it's not even debatable, backs were good, very good, forwards ok,
Mids not beaten, was worse,it was volcanic.

Balta makes me laugh.
One minute he looks like he is going to rip the game to pieces and the next your screaming at him to do something.

Who was in the Ponsford stand last night? At the end of half time/early 3rd quarter, some guy collapsed in front of me. He put himself in the coma position while about 10-12 cops and seccos stood around him. not one of them offered assistance or made any attempt to assist. I reckon about 6-7 minutes passed. no ambos. Very little movement from the cops and seccos. I said more than once to them “do something.” But not one of them even acknowledged me.

Then the guy got up on his own, started walking, while the cops and seccos followed him towards the exit.i don’t know what happened after that.
