Rich V Carl - Match Day Thread

It was not the fact we lost but the way we lost that hurts.
7 50's, more like 70's, showed a lack of discipline and lost count of the frees right in front of goal that resulted in scores for the Blues.
1st and 3rd quarters were not that bad but the second and last were the worst I have seen for yonks.
Do you know that we still have 6 players on our current list that played in the 2013 pl final against the Blues?
They are Riewold, Edwards, Vlastuin, Martin, Cotchin and Grimes.
9 years ago and we still expect them to play at today's level and to still play well.
4 of those should have retired gracefully last year, at least on last night's performances.
Have no idea how we are going to fix the glaring obvious weakness in our midfield.
There does not appear to be any easy solution, except maybe to blood a few of our new recruits, and that will take time.
On last night's form we are not looking too good for finals this year, but can be proven wrong, hopefully.

One more goal when we got 20 up & probably game over.

Some very worrying signs especially the midfield. Geez the cupboard is bare in there.

Could mention plenty of things but why on earth do they persist with Ross on a wing ?

Got hit in the jaw looked like.

Yep, flogged again where the game starts. We read brilliantly with Cotch, Shedda, Dusty, JG, Shai, Nank etc, yet loose centre clearances abysmally. Why?
Our turnover game plan from the back half that netted 3 magnificent flags is yesterday.
That was evident from last year. No improvement in Rd 1 2022.
In trying to eke out another flag, don’t know if our champion vets are up to it, or our game plan just has not evolved.
I was curious to see Dusty's return from injury. Did he run out of gas? He faded badly. Add in Prestia injury. Add in Edwards and Graham playing poor games. Which segues to the 50m penalty. Edwards? What was his excuse? Grimes? That's U 11 level. At least Grimes switched on after his. Soldo's is slightly forgivable but Lynch ran to close and gave away another. Really poor performance to bring to round 1. I thought cotch played well. I'd be dropping Edwards and Graham first.
4th quarter turned into a mauling. Carlton were good. Their pressure caused turnovers and they preyed on them. Our new assistant coach didn't add much.
It's going to be a long season

Our list looks good on paper. Lot's of flag winners.. If fit and contracted, you have to retain players. Prestia can't stay on the park, Dusty looked half done, as did Graham. Getting Tarrant was interesting. Aarts and Ross have their problems too.
I'm furious at the 50s. I'd drop everyone who gave away goal as a result of one.
JR still okay.

I can't seem to find Dimmas presser anywhere.

Anyone got a link?
Can't find Voss's either. Maybe a new AFL directive to stop showing after match pressers until all reporters have had a background check and coaches tested for their emotional state first.

Some observations from last night and reading our reactions on here:
1. The put Daniel back where he belongs is gathering momentum. Allelujiah!!!!
2. Old father time is catching up with the champs. We simply can't recruit the much-needed Cerra types with the champs still on fat contracts. We are going to have to look long and hard at the contracts expiry list.
3. Great first quarter from Dusty. Understandably tired at the end of the game. Hope the hammy is ok. (Not another team soft tissue injury!)
4. It might be the Bluebaggers resurgence. Not many weaknesses in that team.
5. Dion is our barometer. Was it 2020 when he came in at the end of the season and sparked our revival?
6. With Brando gone and Kmac out we had no last quarter gutrunners.
7. We are going to have to monitor the talls. Were we top heavy?
8. Shai looking good. May be our best option in the midfield.
9. Finally, my worry that our second-string midfielder may not have a future.

After sleeping on it, I have decided that we went into the game underdone and a few weren’t ready to play. We looked slow and stopped running in the last quarter. Even if we don’t end up being the team we were hoping to be in 2022, I still think we are capable of playing a lot better that what we brought last night. I’m not gonna be one of those people claiming the season is over after 1 loss.

One last thing. Food outlets not open, all the outlets on the lower level of the Ponsford Stand (strange spot to be, but away game) closed. Queue to the bar was so long it passed another bar . . . which was closed. There is simply no excuse for this. I know they will whinge that they can't get staff, well I call b*llsh*t, offer people the work with better pay and you will get staff. Absolutely pathetic effort. The one food place I went to had most registers closed and one poor employee trying to serve everyone. Stock low, only no sugar coke, empty shelves. Simply sub standard and completely unacceptable. We pay enough to go to the footy, it simply is not good enough.

Yeah I have been vocal on social media about this. the lower level food court was closed. The one bar on level 1 had 100m lines and half of the check outs closed. Absolutely disgraceful. I gave up trying to get a beer.

I have heard the MCC advertising for extra staff. Just offer them more money FFS.

I cal BS. All the talk was that we were refreshed after finally having some time to recover, and a full preseason having started earlier. No excuses for being less fit than Carlturd.

Can anyone who saw the VFL practice game last night give a bit of a report please?

I know we got smashed, and Sonsie has been mentioned as playing well.

How did, RCD, Dow, Martyn, Mansell, Miller, Ryan, Stack and others go?

Thanks in advance.

Ditto. Someone must have a report.

Blind Freddy could see this happening.
Going into a new season relying on soldiers like Prestia Big V Cotchin Edwards and lambo.
If our focus was purely on contending again why would they use 5 picks all on kids?
That was the time to go after Omeara and maybe chase harder for Green.
Can't Believe people are in shock.
This was always going to happen but 10 mins into the 2nd qtr is a bit more then I even expected.

But we did have a few niggles in recent weeks.

anyway i dunno, i'm just trying to find a justifiable excuse for the fadeout last night. The Richmond of 2017-2020 would not have stopped to a walk in the last quarter like we did last night.

What about the Carlton supporters booing Dusty when he went to the bench in the last quarter

Real class.
