Rich V Carl - Match Day Thread

I say hold your fire.

We are rolling out a WAY different setup to the one we had in the 2020 GF.

Starting Balta back was a timid error. I don’t think Dimma will make that same mistake twice.

Let the midfield work into the season. Let the newish backline start to gel. Let Jack, Tom and Noah work off the cobwebs.

Let Soldo find more fitness every week. Allow Nank a night off considering the recent illness.

We are playing to a different structure but we still like to bleed clearance so we can set up our runners defensively.

This is where our running strength lies - Pickett, KMac (out tonight), Lambert (out tonight), Prestia, Edwards, Bolton, Short, Rioli, George, Graham, Ralphsmith, etc

Aarts isn’t polished and Ross isn’t quite at the level, but we will get a look at a few others.

Disappointing result tonight but the club deserves a week or two for the new game plan to settle.

Teague is the key. I believe he said something along the lines of the new look Richmond will take time.

If we are 1-4 after 5 I will concede it’ll be a longish year, but there are too many stars out there to raise the white flag.
Problem is the stars are old and injury-prone. It's evolution. At some stage your guns have to retire and your youngsters have to gain experience before you can be competitive again. That's where we are as a team. Never ever raise the white flag, always have hope, but there were some very worrying signs.

Brown and Sonsie will play plenty of footy this year imo.

Brown will be in the side soon enough they want him in.

We need skill and pace, and the youngsters who can deliver will be coming in to refresh the side as soon as they are ready.

The side may well be cooked, mentally or physically or both and if they are that's ok, its been a great ride but it needs to be addressed much earlier than we left it last year.

Next week will tell more, if we get rolled by the Gee Whiz at home its looking ominous even at round 2.
Its whether they make the call on someone like Cotch to fast track these types

Lynch is a concern. Balta needs to stay forward. All this talk of second rate players is just what happens after 3 premierships. So our strengths are no longer what they were we have to accomodate the players we do have this year like Ross RCD Stack Miller etc. delist them if they don’t progress. Edwards Cotchin Prestia Riewoldt and lynch/dusty to a lesser degree are not the way forward. And please no more aarts and George. Please…. PLEASE!!

Also have to pretty much disagree Carter.

Apart from the comment that we will get a look at other players and that Soldo will get better. We will get a look at other players b.c there will simply be no choice but to play some of the new /younger blokes.

I actually dont see a new game plan and didnt when watching the preseason games.
All I saw was 1-2 positional moves (Balta, Baker). No game plan changes apart from short, more careful kicks out of the backline. Which make no sense to me anyway. Saw nothing different in our centre play. Or nothing much different in our F50 entries.
Saw nothing different to the Free Kicks against column from LY either.

The dominance by their mids tonight is no different to how we lost to teams who were on the improve LY with quality mids (Sydney, Freo, Brisbane, etc. Touk Miller on his own thrashed our mids LY, Cerra had his best game against us LY. ) Our mids falling back to a bottom third category is not just this week, its been coming for a little while now.

 preseason form early again I see dimasachump ! :ROFLMAO: You really do need to just chill and kick back a little, its a long season and you'll no doubt have plenty of time ahead to let outrageous posts fly from all directions, pace yourself Son.
Nah. I love Nank and obviously wont be dropped but his ruckwork sucks. Watch him closely and you will find there is hardly a hitout to our mids advantage. Also one of the reasons we also get smacked at stoppages

You have no idea. Been very good.
Yep, was great for Carlton.

Its amazing we spent the preseason flirting with a functional forward line.

Then lined up with Balta at fullback with Aarts and Castagna forward.

I'm sure if we repeat exactly what we did in 2021 it will work out great. Right?

I don't see why we were sooo desperate to bring in 5 kids in.
Instead of recruiting to stay in the window
I think Clark and Hartley are set us with a group of 20 year olds and a group of injury prone older players.
It's a funny list managerment set up.

It's a bottom four midfield now. We just need to draft and rebuild it. Maybe get a decent free agent when Cotch/Jack/Shedda go at the end of the year.

You seriously can’t lay the blame on that quarter on Castsgna. There are worse out there.

Problem with Castagna is that I have absolutely no confidence when he is lining up for goal. None.

And he needs to make the most of his chances.

31 tackles tonight.

Fewest since 2015.
Oh yeah, absolute problem, can't seem to "stick 'em" at all, far to may "arm jobs/Matador efforts", instead of getting the shoulder in under the ribcage like what Grimes gave to Cerra early on. Do they even do tackling drills at training anymore or is there a clause in Players contracts that only allow for a certain amount of "physical touching" in a week ? Our Ladies team tackle better than the guys at the moment, harsh but true.

I wasn’t really paying attention, does anyone know how many centre bounces Dusty attended in the last quarter?
