Rich V Carl - Match Day Thread

His body is unfortunately GONE for today's game, anyone who thinks differently is pissing into the wind, soft tissue injuries is your body telling you it's time to "put the feet up", the Meatball is cooked.
We could all see it last year
And we were screaming that they would at least use 1 of those picks they had to use on Mitchell or O'Meara.
We lost Coleman Jones and picked up another pick.
Why couldn't they had used 1 of those??
I'm angry.

Still don’t understand why Ross wasn’t thrown into midfield rotations when Prestia got injured. He toiled ok on the wing but doesn’t have the speed we need in that position. Play him as a ruck rover or not at all.

He has a distinct style when tackled to dive forward and throw the ball out. Ump got sucked in a few times. Also caused that stupid double 50 against Graham.
Umps have to let it go unless it's obvious. Some players are very good at milking it.

I say hold your fire.

We are rolling out a WAY different setup to the one we had in the 2020 GF.

Starting Balta back was a timid error. I don’t think Dimma will make that same mistake twice.

Let the midfield work into the season. Let the newish backline start to gel. Let Jack, Tom and Noah work off the cobwebs.

Let Soldo find more fitness every week. Allow Nank a night off considering the recent illness.

We are playing to a different structure bit we still like to bleed clearance so we can set up our runners defensively.

This is where our running strength lies - Pickett, KMac (out tonight), Lambert (out tonight), Prestia, Edwards, Bolton, Short, Rioli, George, Graham, Ralphsmith, etc

Aarts isn’t polished and Ross isn’t quite at the level, but we will get a look at a few others.

Disappointing result tonight but the club deserves a week or two for the new game plan to settle.

If we are 1-4 after 5 I will concede it’ll be a longish year, but there are too many stars out there to raise the white flag.
Have to disagree about our run. Forget Lambert. His body is cooked. Same as Prestia. Ralphsmith does have some run but hes a fluffer and will kill momentum. Graham is too undisciplined and costs goals. Sheds is slowing down.
Really only leaves Short and Bolton.
Still think Short on the wing is something they should really look at

at the risk of appearing arrogant, let me copy/paste my post below from earlier in the week on another thread - other posters back then didnt agree.

Gibcus is not Samson Ryan, but a big call by the MC , agree with you Red - lets hope it ends up better for him than it did for Samson.

Either way, as the pessimistic one on this site, cant see us winning this year against the Blues, they are coming even if they arent quite there yet.

Carlton's midfield is much stronger with Hewitt and Cerra, Saad and the ex GWS guy now playing back as per their best positions. They were very good against the Dees. They'll get the ball forward enough times to CC and McKay. And for me, our defence hasnt looked on song.

We've lost some true grit players in the arcs too (Flossy at HB and Kam on the wings/pushing back). Graham is always a lock for me in the best 22, but he's had an iffy pre-season.

Think the Blues by 22 points. Wont be the season lost for us. after Rd 1. Or won for them either!
Gee I hope Dion stays fit this year.

That was the post.
Not the end of the world to lose R1.

But we have 3 real genuine issues/we had them last year too (although there is some truth to being cooked last year).

1. Our midfield depth is now in the bottom third of teams - Cotch is cooked, others are tired legs. There's not enough class and depth now to compete with the quality midfields of other teams. Even Lambert playing wont help.

2. Our injury /player conditioining (and it could be linked to old legs) is no where near the performance levels 2-3 years ago. Peter Burge even sounded defensive to me on his last injury video.

3. Assistant coaches need to get better. Every line - defence, mid and forwards isnt learning the lessons from game to game/loss to loss.
That's some crystal ball *smile* right there, nicely done, many points right on the money.

Next 3 drafts…midfielders, midfielders and midfielders.
I have been saying we need midfielders
3 hours after winning the 2020 flag.
Prestia isn't reliable
Martin can't carry this side for another 5 years.
It's hard to accept when you can see how weak we are in the midfield

Geez losing Dion just killed us. Different side from the second his hammy pinged
This is a very good point.

If Prestia stays healthy, and Cripps goes off injured at qtr time, we may well have a very different result.

Such is the closeness of the modern game.

The end is nigh. In hindsight the club made a massive error in allowing Cotch and JR8 to continue.
Which is why I and others suggested that they both retire after 2020, they've done their job and then some and there would have been no shame in both of them hanging them up. You could see that they have both slowed down significantly and we cant afford to carry them they way the current oppos shape up.

Whilst its still Rd1, the signs were there all last year and oppo midfields are miles ahead of where we need to be. I cringed when I heard Graham was going to play bc he aint fit. I got the distinct impression that with his and Gibcu's selection that we paid no respect to Carlscum. Kudos to them and the umps.

Could also say if Walsh played even with Prestia we get smashed in the middle. Injuries arent an excuse for lack of pressure, chase and intensity

It doesn't look good, but its only one game. Graham's game was Lennonesque, but with extra stupidity. Aarts and Ross not up to it. Dusty playing like he is grieving.

A lot of people are pointing the finger, arrogance, poor recruiting, champs playing a year too long, I don't think its any of that.

Its a numbers game, what goes up must come down, draft order and salary cap says so. Its very simple.

I think we'll beat the odds and will back contending far sooner than we should be, and I also think this season will be an interesting ride.

Fast track a Sonsie or Brown. Get Stack into the team somehow.
Brown and Sonsie will play plenty of footy this year imo.

Brown will be in the side soon enough they want him in.

We need skill and pace, and the youngsters who can deliver will be coming in to refresh the side as soon as they are ready.

The side may well be cooked, mentally or physically or both and if they are that's ok, its been a great ride but it needs to be addressed much earlier than we left it last year.

Next week will tell more, if we get rolled by the Gee Whiz at home its looking ominous even at round 2.

I heard during the week that if you start the season 0-2, you have a 10 percent chance of making the finals.

Huge game against GWS.

For all of Nanks bravado he is an absolute terrible ruckman. Cannot remember one hitout to our advantage out of the ruck
 preseason form early again I see dimasachump ! :ROFLMAO: You really do need to just chill and kick back a little, its a long season and you'll no doubt have plenty of time ahead to let outrageous posts fly from all directions, pace yourself Son.
