Rich V Carl - Match Day Thread

I said it at the end of last year and have no reason to change that opinion now ........ needs to retire, done, far to slow of foot now. I rank the bloke in the TOP 5 to have ever worn this Jumper, but times up and there's no shame in it, walk away Champ, you have accomplished as much as you possibly could have, please dont go out tarnishing that reputation.
Agree. I thought he was on the down and off the pace last year. Brilliant career but the problem when you slow down is you have to rush your disposals and that clearly showed tonight. It's kick and hope for him now. 5 efficient disposals playing in the midfield just doesn't cut it, particularly when your opponent gets 20+.

We're not going to drop such a historically great player so that's less chance for the youngsters to get a go.

Going to be another tough year.

Should have been further in front in the 1st quarter. Poor misses by Jack, Aarts and Lynch came back to bite us worse than a Tom Morris recording.

Top 5 possession winners all Blues. Says it all.

Our midfield is old and run down. Years of recruiting negkect means there is nothing coming through (other than Sonsie). RCD and Ross MIA
I dont quite think it was recruiting neglect; more so we haven't selected the right player types with our 1st rounders (albeit not top 10 picks given where we finished).

RCD is a no for me; said it 2 years ago. Higgins bad choice and gone anyway. Dow bad choice. Ross and Aarts are only playing bc there's no one else. They are trying though so not their fault.

I don’t think we can blame anyone else but ourselves for this loss. The lack of discipline in giving away so many 50m penalties is really disappointing and telling. It needs to be addressed.
It's like we are the last team to inherit the new rules.
We know the umpires we bend us over, but tonight you can't blame the umpires every single week.

Agree. It's what I mean by recruiting neglect. We've shied away from ball winning minds in favour of flashy blokes that we think could be mids.

The selection of Gibcus shows we are still arrogant when we no longer have a right to be. Not his fault we lost but i just didnt see the reason to rush him straight into the team especially when someone like Miller has done the hard yards.

Ralphsmith not good enough for mine. Nowhere near ready and im afraid will be part of that draft that will cost us for years to come.

Parker is another one. Why was there a need to re-sign him. Seen better midfielders in our VFL team that should have been given a go. Team is screaming for midfielders and we do that. Unwarranted arrogance

The Ben Lennon pick still haunts me..

One thing many may be overlooking is just how important have the assistants that we have lost been. Happened to Clarkson after they poached his assistants year after year. I think it has been one of the major reasons we have dropped off the ball the last few years. That and a lot of ageing legs
