Reece Conca - so long and thanks for all the fish

The commentators called him on it on one stage and it did appear that way.

It’s way more common in football than people realise though, so I’m not too fused as long as he learns.

It's not an issue for me in terms of what he can become but I don't think the "hard" man tags are correct at this stage.

Yeah, I agree. I want him getting touches from the defensive 50 forward. I am going to put something out there that won't be popular. A couple of times Friday night, I thought he looked a little timid.

Are you talking about the time he went for a mark one-handed?

Heard the media comments and watched for it on the replay. Think timids a bit harsh.
Second year kids sometimes going to be a touch uncertain or perhaps unfocused during moments in games, will just cause a momentary flicker in their momentum while thought processes click into gear.
Reckon just about every player thats pulled on a boot has the odd dodgy moment or two. Some occaisionally manage to commit the unforgivable reflex howler.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Just gives away too many dumb free kicks away.
If King is the number 1 for free kicks against , Conca must be really close 2nd.
Has he really improved?? I think Ellis has shown more

Not his fault....the umpires have it in for him....

Judging by two of the decisions they do.

2nd term he's penalised for throwing an opponent to the groud who had possession when he was tackled but released it illegally (hard for the tackler to tell if the opponent is still in possession.

Then in the last term, 30m out from goal. High ball comes in, Conca doesn't even take possession and is slung to the ground with more force than the prior incident, but is there a whistle? I guess like the Morris head high tackle, a few minutes later, we wouldn't wantto pay anything in kicking range would we?

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

For a pick 6 he is only just going for mine and his discipline is a real worry.

no left foot, undisciplined and has shown some signs of being a little timid.

Heppel right now is making our choice look like a not so good one

Not a heck of alot between them conc averaging 18 possies heppell 21...reece still needs to fill out some

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Not about possessions it is more about decisions amd impact on the game.

I wonder how many "nuetrals' woudl have Conca above heppel right now?

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I think a lot of players, especially early in their careers, have those moments where they could have gone harder which they probably regret. There have been many times where Conca has gone in pretty hard too, So I don't believe he is timid. I do think he is a bit down on form, but that is pretty common for a second year player (Batchelor is the same ATM)

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

This Conca heppell thing is just weird. You'd think Heppell was Ablett and Conca was Hernaman. Can we pass the hat around for a PRE shrink?

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I think Heppell is well ahead of Conca at this point in time. If that's still the case in 5 years, then maybe we made a blue, but I think we were recruiting for needs and they saw Conca as meeting that need. Likely they will both end up being very good players. Elite? Who knows.

I kept a good eye on heppell in game against us, barely knew he was out there....well ahead would be a stretch, a nose perhaps, little in it

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Conca in my opinion has more scope for improvement. Where as heppell's game at the moment is pretty sound in all areas.
In 3-4 years conca's best footy will be better than heppell's.

Almost none I would have thought. Richmond people would be the only supporter group that would be reasonably evenly divided. Which is either a reflection of the fact that unlike others they see Conca each week and have a true understanding of his worth and potential, or they just can't bring themselves to admit that the club might have made an error (as was the case with Tambling versus Franklin for quite a few seasons). I guess we'll know for certain in a couple of years which it really is?

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I find this obsession by some to compare players boring to be honest. We also have a thread comparing Martin with JettA and Rohan.
What's the point? I am interested in how good a Richmond player Reece Conca can be and Dustin Martin can be. I have no interest in Heppell, Jetta or Rohan unless we are trying to recruit them.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

The point is we passed on heppel (and Darling!) and took conca, which was a surprise at the time

Heppell is a very talented footballer, but he plays loose man in defense. Easiest gig in town. Just ask Jason Cloke.
