FJ was right when he rated this kid so highly.

No he wasn't. Conca was rated a 2nd round pick by the BF Phantom Draft gurus so that's where we should have picked him up.

Don't know why Hardwick has reverted to playing him in the backline. Rather him in the midfield rotation and Ellis more off HBF if anything.

Has played more in the middle this year, but i reckon last night may have been more to do with structure and matchups with the saints having Millera, Saad and the Tippy up front.

The same experts that had Pendlebury as a late first rounder. :rofl

Yes, the phantom draft hive mind is always correct.

Agree. I know this sounds weird, but Dea was a huge loss this week. We really needed him to match up on their small forwards.

Hardwick said the same thing on SEN today. He apparently towelled Saad in a VFL match and would have had him last night.

Wouldnt have lasted that long , was always top 10 and deservedly so

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I really love the way he aims to inflict pain whenever he tackles someone. Anytime he is involved in the play the opposition player really knows about it. A real hard edge to Reece that isnt often mentioned

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I see Conca as a bloke who thinks very quickly - makes a decision and delivers. He looks at all options available and does not often seem rushed. His disposal is very good. Ok - so having said that, when he is actually rushed he does make mistakes but he is a kid and surely he will improve this over time... all in all a very good prospect if not already a very good player.

Watch it again. Saad wouldn't let go of Conk's arm, he was swinging himself violently to get free and in the process brought Saad to ground.

It was clever by Saad and unfortunate for Conca.

If memory serves me correct, earlier in the year against Port I think it was, the umpires starting paying 50 metre penalties against us for doing similar things to the opposition, blocking etc, I wonder where the 50s were last night when the Saints were doing it, the obvious one being Saad on Conca.

That was exactly my thought! It was obvious that Saad was too tired to chase him up the ground so just hung on for dear life.

Why can't an umpire figure out that Conca had nothing to gain by grappling his opponent when we had the ball and it was his job to run down the ground and create.

Discipline
Sometimes a free can turn the game, don't give the umpires the chance to ping you, be strong and let it go.

yes , there was no doubt that Saad was holding Conca and as others have said Conca had no reason to hold Saad as we were the team with the ball. However a more experienced and cool head would realise that when you throw a player to the ground off the ball you are probably going to get pinged.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

It wasn't his fault, at that stage if the game the umpires were giving them free kicks to get them back in the game.
King is the major concern, dosent get any and always gets destroyed by them.
Gesh needs benny to visit him!

Yeah, I agree. I want him getting touches from the defensive 50 forward. I am going to put something out there that won't be popular. A couple of times Friday night, I thought he looked a little timid.

The commentators called him on it on one stage and it did appear that way.

It’s way more common in football than people realise though, so I’m not too fused as long as he learns.
