Reece Conca - so long and thanks for all the fish

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

just think he's being too physically bashed for a young body. needs to stay on the outside a bit more.

You are right MT. I have Heppell in my Dreamteam, so watched him closely. He didn't do enough for a player of his standing. Could be a one of I suppose, but I have seen him a couple of times this season, and he hasn't done that much. Second year blues? It happens, but the big thing will be whether he gets over it.

More then likely is second year blues, but when a player is so reliant on being spoon fed the ball and has clearly shirked the contests a couple times this year it doesn't bode well for the future when the game has gone up another cog in terms of contested ball winning ability and the ability to defend, 2 things that I IMO think Heppell doesn't do either of particularly well.

Yeah that was great. Very coachable kid I'd think.

Exact same thing that came to my mind when I first read about Conca, you could tell from day dot that the kid just wanted to be a sponge and get every bit of advice he could from anyone, take it on board and put it into practice.

Perfect example for me was last year when Milne gave him a touch up, the kid could have quite easily gone into his shell for the rest of the year, but instead, he learns from it, moves on and plays some outstanding footy for the majority of the year.

It's these types of characters that I hope FJ and co keep recruiting, the ones who have an appetite to learn and get better, can never go wrong with this type of recruiting philosophy, because at the end of the day, whether the kid turns out to be a flop, or an A grader, or even just a solid footballer, you know deep down that they gave it there best shot and never gave up.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

going well. but was hoping for bigger strides this year.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Pretty meh game last night, thought he was going to step up after the Dees game but seems to have gone into his shell.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Recovered his form somewhat today. Got 21 touches and was hardly noticed. But have watched a replay of the game, and he did some good stuff.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

one thing I like about conca is that if he stuffs up,he busts a gut to make amends, and he usually cleans up his mess

On track

Yes he did he even layed off a coupla of dont argues ... confidence growing in the kids.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Always feel people are very harsh on him. Only second year player, give him some time please. His endeavour is good and has the skills to propel him as a footballer. Give him another 1-2 years and he will be a real player for us. Just like Ellis, just needs a few years.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Is a very good stepper out on the field, has made a few howlers but does butter up well when he stuffs up, doesnt charge along like Tuck or Martin, or have obvious impact on contests like Chimpa nor looks a million dolalars running lines like Lids but he keeps his feet well, and is very clever in tight, wins contested footy and uses it well more often than not sure Reece is going to be a very important player for the tigers going forward.

Steady ball winner and user, smart footballer, and a good addition to Chimp, Dusty Axel and Lids.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I'd like to see him play more midfield than defence.
He is a very important part of our midfield moving forward.

Agree with all that Collo.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I thought he was good today Conca, did make a few errors and wasn't the cleanest below his knees but he was always in the contest and gave us plenty of drive.

But I look at it this way, every game we get into him in 2011/12/13 is an investment in building a premiership team. Same applies to Ellis and now Griffo.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Still only 19 years old? He's traveling well. I'm a big fan, but happy to say I think he is playing well below his best at the moment. But that is more of a compliment if anything.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Was much better today than last couple, couple of stuff ups buttered up, a step forward his development today :clap

Yeah I wasn't as thrilled with his game as others.

That's pretty obvious...I don't know any player that is at their best at 19 years of age.
