I'm still juries out with Reece. I'm not saying he won't be good but I do querie pick 6 when you see how players who were selected after him are going.

Take out the sub game and he's averaging roughly 20 touches a game as a 2nd year mid. Would've thought that's tracking ahead of schedule or maybe that's just me?

Should be averaging 30.

No doubt he can get the ball, but as we know footy is more than just that.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

running up and down on the spot at the mo, not bad but not above good either...tbh i expected a bit more after a great game vs Melb...shouldnt be beyond him to have some 25 =- games and get amongst the goals

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

First time I have seen him look rattled. Really struggled with the tempo and looked a little lost at times.

Not sure why he spent so much time in the back half.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Bit of a backwards step last night.

His strength is his clean ball use and silky foot skills. As he is not overly quick and does not have a penetrating kick.

When he is fumbling and can't hit targets, doesn't offer much else to the team. Still confident he has great upside but last night was one of his poorer games for a while.

Every game he plays is a game he's learning from, hardly a backward step.

Well that's not true, pretty sure he roosted one from 55m out few weeks back off a couple steps.

I'd say Heppell was far worse then Conca, at least Conca puts his head over the ball and is willing to take the hard hit, with Heppell if he isn't being spoon fed the ball he's next to useless just sitting outside of the pack.

There wouldnt be too many 2nd year players who would have handled the tempo yesterday. Even Golden Boy Heppell struggled last night.

Forgot the hair brush.

Heppel was absolutely horrible! so second rate under pressure, said it from the start. Much happier with conca thankyou very much. Second year player geez ease up some of you.

Concs made an error and backed it up late in the last quarter.

The kid's smart, is a hard nut and will get better. IMO, will become the best number 30 since Freezer.

Heppel was rubbish. Crapped himself a number of times. Been found out in contested ball situations. We now know how to beat Essendon - pressure in and around the ball. With a functioning forward line and better finishing, we'll win next time.

I was amazed to see Heppell get named in the best players for the Dons on the AFL website.

Got to justify the Rising Star award I suppose.

Heppell seems to me to be a carbon copy of Jason Cloke. Like to be loose man in defence, gets found out when he needs to be really accountable.

Bombers better hope he can make the midfield transition.

Yep.

I just think a guy who puts his head over the ball and constantly wins his own ball has a far better chance of making it in AFL then a guy who relies on the easy ball out the back of the pack.

Heppell for mine was barley sighted last night, so I have no idea how he got named in the bests, he made far far more crucial mistakes then Conca did, but it was nice to see that after Conca had fluffed the kick for him to put his head down, run back hard and take a good intercept mark to make up for his mistake.

You are right MT. I have Heppell in my Dreamteam, so watched him closely. He didn't do enough for a player of his standing. Could be a one of I suppose, but I have seen him a couple of times this season, and he hasn't done that much. Second year blues? It happens, but the big thing will be whether he gets over it.

Yeah that was great. Very coachable kid I'd think.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

think he's going ok for a second year player. however seems to have lost some of his zip in the last few games and is mostly concerned about hitting a contest hard and going head first. also being tackled and going to ground alot. maybe influenced by his coaches mantra of head over the ball. this is good in a way, but would like to see him utilise his strengths more, like his composure, evasiveness and decision making. seems like he just wants to be at the bottom of the packs and as a result is being bashed and beaten up physically.

It's all a learning curve, he'll get those back along with the added hardness he's showing. I like this bloke.
