Reece Conca - so long and thanks for all the fish

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Was one of our better players today. Been a fan since day 1

For an inside mid, I don't think extreme pace is a prereqisite, he seems to have good evasion and is generally a quick thinker. A guy like Joel Selwood isn't super fast but positions himself well and is a clearance machine, Conca just needs to play to his strengths and focus on winning his fair share of contested footy.

Yep, totally agree.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Marc Murphy is not lightening quick, nor is Pendelbury, Swan, Black or a lot of other gun midfielders. Conca works well in traffic, goes hard, makes space and is a good user of the footy. Is going to be a very good player for a long time.

Murphy and Swan are very quick. I take your point about the others, but swan and murphy are extremely quick off the mark.

Like his ability to keep the ball moving and makes smart choices with the ball.
I haven't seen today's game yet but this is what I mean when I compare him to a point guard. And the ability to overlap and have more than one involvement is hugely important and will determine just how important he becomes for us. You feel if he touches it 2-3 times in a chain we score, as with Chimp (only needs one a lot of the time), Lids, Dusty, all good players.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Yep great point Spook.

Agree that he needs to get stronger, which he will.

On field, Ben Cousins is someone his size & game style that he needs to look at a lot of tapes & base his game off ILO.

Agree with this. Swan's a bullet with the ball when he's coming out of a pack - don't really see the resemblance to Reece. Do like the kid though.

Agree entirely with this. Not as talented currently but have seen a lot of Cuz like similarities since his draft tape and little has changed my mind that that's is the level he needs to strive towards.
Just make sure the tapes are from Benny's days at WC. ;D

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Good player, but has to stop jumping onto oppositions players back's and giving away free kick's in our attacking 50.

At the draft camp in his year Murphy tested as one of the slowest midfielders, he has a quick first step but is not the kind of guy to run people down. Swan runs hard all hard but you can you ever remember them running people down from behind?

Reckon the kids goin to be your ultra reliable type, never plays a bad one type.

I would take that.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Don't know what to make of this kid. Terrible handball skills and his kicking doesn't look as good as advertised. Still light framed hence can't break a tackle.

What I make of him is he is an inconsistent, inexperienced 2nd year mid who will be very good.

Spot on Jimmy. Perfect 2nd tier mid to complement Deledio, Martin and Cotchin.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Still has a way to go but has time on his side. Not totally convinced yet. Fingers crossed.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I'm still juries out with Reece. I'm not saying he won't be good but I do querie pick 6 when you see how players who were selected after him are going.
