Kicking is not elite, but over short and medium distances it is very very good. He is not a long or a very penetrating kick however. Overall very happy with Concs.
Agree.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

This kid can play. Give him some time. Needs to play a bit more in the midfield, plus needs to build up over the preseason

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Yep he'll be fine I have no doubt about that.

We've been spoilt with Martin coming in and being ready-made from the get go. We are going to have to be a little more patient with Reece as he makes the transition from Juniors to AFL.

That gather & quick kick at goal that was just touched on the weekend was class.
He was unlucky with that one . I thought it was goal live . Haven't seen the replay but it looked through from where i was and I was relatively close .

To me Conca will be a very good player but he will be a reliable high quality possession winner , someone we can rely on to get high possessions and use the ball well . He will never be a game breaker .

Its not meant to be a criticism because there is nothing wrong with that . He is just not the burst of brilliance type footballer.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

i was a heppell fan and think he is doing well, however i think conca will be a genuine mid very much in the form of cousins
id like to see cousins back at the club working with conca, chimp, lids and martin.... teach them how to gut run
both heppell and conca will be very good players but i think conca will overtake him and be a star

Will be interesting next weekend against West Coast where Cousins will sit with. The Eagles or Richmond camp. ;D

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Looks to be struggling a bit with his depth of kick at the moment.

A couple of shots he has had from 50m have fallen short in recent weeks, hope the heavy workload he has done this season is not doing too much damage.

His legs are definately tired, but a good preason will build up his quads. He'll be raring to go next year.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Heppell will mayb win bummers b&f. He was our early target for first round selection before a switch to Conca.

R we still happy with the punt on Reece.

Wondering whether Reece would have slipped to our second pick ? I know its all hindsight, but was anyone else genuinely interested in Reece ?
Freo and Hawthorn by memory and he mentioned there was another I think

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

On here somewhere are quotes from Quayle saying they thought he was a clear top 10. No chance he was lasting to 30.

Nope. She had him at #23 in her talent rankings which is where she rates them not where she thinks they will be picked based on the rumours and what she hears.

23. REECE CONCA

(Perth, 18, 185cm, 79kg)

Add him to the list of solid, safe midfield bets. Goes after the ball when it's his turn, uses it well and can play in all parts of the ground. Keeps running, and plays with some burst. Perhaps doesn't have the polish of some of the other onballers, but is neat and a safe mark. Impressive attitude helps push him up the order.

Where will he be picked?

High. He's been talked about as a chance for Richmond at No. 6, and will possibly head to the Gold Coast at No. 9, No. 10, No. 11 or No. 13.

Heppell by the way:

5. DYSON HEPPELL

(Gippsland Power, 18, 189cm, 80kg)

One of those players who seems to know — or decide — what will happen next. A tall onballer, he can get involved by sweeping the ball off half-back and carrying that involvement through the middle. Can read the ball well through the air, mark and knows what to do next with his long left-foot kick. An assured, grounded teenager who will be the best he can be.

Where will he be picked?

Probably by the Brisbane Lions at No. 5. Unlikely to get past Richmond if he's there at 6

Hmm. Was very surprised we overlooked Heppell on draft day and still surprised and can't figure our why we did it. Happy enough with Conca but he won't match Heppell's class over the journey IMO on the qualities I've seen in both so far. Conca will be a good soldier midfielder IMO as Emma points out that would have him slotting behind the likes of Cotchin/Martin. Heppell has that star quality about him that would've fallen in line right next to the likes of Cotch and Martin.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I've got no problem with getting Conca before Heppel.
Reece showed some unbelievable courage when he knocked Stokes out a few games back, total eyes for the footy

He's tailed off a bit but his early form was as good as can be expected of a first year player, I reckon he's a good fit at our club and despite the fact Heppell will be a very good player I reckon Conca will play 150 games of AFL football. I'm going out on a limb here and going to predict he'll be the best pick 6 in the history of the game. ;D
