Nice pick, but heppel is better for mine.

Mr Magic said:We are all thinking it so its ok to say it.......not picking Heppell is another drafting mistake and by the looks of it a Rising Star / Brownlow level mistake

Heppell is as good as he will be. Conca still have a lot of improvment in him.
Conca has the sort of composure and play reading ability you cannot easily teach.
If Heppell goes into the middle, he will become a different sort of player. He will certainly not get the freedom he has enjoyed playing off HBF. Can he handle it? I don't know the answer for sure, but I am not sure he will week in week out. I think he will actually become a Hodge type rebounding defender. Still a fantastic sort of player to have.
Conca I do see as being a true midfielder. He is learning the game defensively and it will stand him in good stead.

Pandaboy said:Dude are you serious?? Your saying there is absolutely no upside to Heppell? An 18 year old kid playing in his first year, likely rising star is as "good as he will be"? One of the most ridiculous things I have read on PRE. I'm a huge fan of Heppell and at the moment is miles ahead of Conca. He has the ability you can't teach, great decision making. At the moment he doesn't have the tank, so gets exhausted running out games, so I'm predicting this kid will be an absolute star (if he isn't already) in a couple of years time, once he builds his tank.
Conca may get there in a few years time too, and sure may have more upside, but to say Heppell won't get any better is just non-nonsensical.
TigerMasochist said:Couple of kids called Lance Witnall and Tom Hawkins never improved much after being drafted. Daniel Rich would be another that is about as good as he was when he started.
TigerMasochist said:Haven't seen much of Heppell so I'm not gunna bag him to hard for a bomber snot, but I have noticed that he spends most of his game roaming around on his own. For a defender he seems to play very loose, makes him an ideal easy release player and he certainly creates well.
Might be a bit of Tiger bias but Reecey seems to me to be getting a much harder footy education playing in our overwhelmed backline with bits n pieces of mid work. Reckon he just might shade Heppell in a couple of years time.
Hungry said:Are Gold Coast, Brisbane and West Coast all crying into their weeties over missing Heppell? Do their recruiters suck? Because it can't just be Richmond.
There is still a lottery element to the draft. But with high choices you need to make sure you get a good player. I'd only worry about missing Heppell if Conca ended up being a total bust (like Fiora, Tambling, Thorp etc.)
Conca shows all the attributes of being a good player - has a touch of class about him and has impressed early on. Incredible that he hardly had a pre-season too.
