Reece Conca - so long and thanks for all the fish

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

IIRC, part of the reason for choosing Conca over Heppell was considering the pick alongside our second pick. The view was that Conca would be gone by the second round. Conca and Batchelor was considered to be a better overall result than Heppell and whoever would be available in the second round (as we would not have taken Batch, having taken Heppell). Thus it's unfair to simply compare Conca and Heppell.

Harley Bennell having alot of discipline related issues.

Article in today's paper saying he's very homesick and also has a gambling problem!!

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Even a tiring, half fit squirrel is better that 90% of the clowns that were running around on Saturday. Get him back in and see how he goes after his week off.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

interesting that the dons are opening looking for a chance to rest heppell:

kinda makes those scoffing at the thought conca might need a rest look pretty silly.

good to see him back this week.

No, it doesn't.

Agree. Essendon are scoffed at everywhere else and all of a sudden they are the gurus of player management. Please.

considering heppell is the only 1st year player to have played 14 games, i reckon it shows that every club knows young players benefit from weeks off during the year.

Huh?

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Giving first year players a week off here and there is proper player management. How many young guys get a week off with 'general soreness'? Even Dusty got a week off last year when the Tigers knew they were going to be flogged by Geelong and rested him for that game.

Based on commentary in last night's game, that Heppell and one WC player (Darling I think?) are the only 2 in the top 30 draft picks to play all possible games this year. All clubs know that the kids get battered in their first season and need a rest for general soreness during the year.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I find it funny as well that some assume that if one first year player has played all games that is a case for arguing the same for all first year players. The fact is very player is different and requires different routines. That's what you call player management, one size doesn't fit all. You may get a player or two who can handle the yakka of a ful season, but for most, movng from your TAC comp to AFL level is very taxing on the body, and it is no surprise to see players struggling a little at this time of the year. Even Heppel has struggled a little at time in the last few games (up until last week). His tackling and intensity has dropped off.

Still wish we took Heppel ;)

Eagles just had the bye so theres no point resting Darling. Maybe in 4-5 weeks they might.

Hoping Conca plays a good game tonight.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Hope he had a good nap, and is nice and refreshed for the game tonight.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Would like to see him in the forward line as named - he still hasn't kicked his first goal yet (4 behinds)!
