Conca didn't even play and he is copping part of the backlash.
Of course.
If he was any good, as a number six draft pick he would have been playing so then we could have rubbished him for being part of our crap performance. But he's not even good enough to get a game in such a crap side so he must be an absolute spud.
Dud delist we've wasted another first round draft pick. :whistle :theyareontome

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I don't mind the kid, but honestly I've would've preferred a taller player, like lynch or Gorringe.
Heppell is ok, but it's not a Tambling/Franklin draft.
Josh Caddy hasn't played, bad foot injury keeping him out all year.
Polak, not sure why his not getting a game. Karenzis looks to be a good half forward.
Harley Bennell having alot of discipline related issues.
Overall after pick 5 a very even draft

If you're talking about our old Polak he recently retired from all forms of footy. :p

But I think you mean Polec, and he is out with a LTI, he is also a very lightly framed kid so he wasn't going to make much of an impact in his first year anyway.

The 2 talls we highly rated in the 2010 draft was Lycett and Darling, both of whom WCE pinched before our picks and both gone before our Compensation pick.

2012 is the year we will stock up on quality KPPs, FJ is already on record saying that he rates the 2012 draft for KPPs.

This is the video from draft time about FJ mentioning Lycett/Darling.

And about FJ discussing the 2012 draft I cant seem to find the article but I do remember reading about him talking about the 2012 draft.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Get facts right. Conca is a first year player who just needs a rest. He was rested. His form dropped off but that was more because of the grinding nature of an afl season. That is what the Gold Coast have done and that was the idea with Conca. He played a ripper against Essendon... actually played better than Heppel. Secondly, Richmond weren't the only other team to miss on Heppel. And the reason is that Essendon spread rumors about Heppel, they claimed he had ongoing injury problems... Teams took their bluff and Bombers said thankyou very much.. I can tell you that is fact.
Conca will be an A grader I believe.
Important to note that our best young midfielders all have low endurance tanks. Cotchin is another 2 pre seasons from reaching a really good tank. He has only had the 1 proper one so far. Martin's weakness is still his endurance. That will build and Conca is much the same. Some of the hysteria is ridiculous

Stopped reading after this comment. If you seriously think clubs would beleive rumours in the paper rather than medical checks you have NFI. If we thought Conca was the better player so be it but dont bring up that crap about Heppell having OP and thus turning off him.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

People have to realise if there was no compensated draft Conca wouldn,t even be in the top 20 of last years draft.I don,t expect him to be and out and out star,But more of a good depth player through the midfeild.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

While i dont want to bag Conca, as he may turn out to be a good footballer, when the club talked about drafting elite kicks, then Heppell fits the bill. The kid will be a star. Has the making of another Pendlebury. As i said, while i think Conca will be a serviceable player for us, this is another one we got wrong. Picking up kids like Heppell are the difference in the long run.

Think your wrong there FDuD.Footskills is the one area Conca has it over Heppell under pressure.

Not from the games i have seen. I'll think we will agree to disagree on this one and see how it pans out, but Heppell is a wonderful kick. As i said, not baggin Conca as for a first year player he has shown plenty, but if we are talking elite kicks i dont think Conca is one.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Amazing. An excellent young first y player cops a bagging and he wasnt even playing. So dumb

:clap
Best post so far. You are spot on Mate, all three of our young midfielders need more pre-seasons to get the tank required to run out a game, and more importantly, a long AFL season. Martin looks tired, as does Cotch. Would rest both if we could. Even Foley will need another pre-season to get his best endurance back.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

One thing to remember is the jobs the two have been given

Conca has copped some pretty tough gigs, working in a very young back line, or rotating through our very young midfield.

Heppell has often been LMID, which does make a player look pretty good (remember Bowden).

C'mon this excuse was ok at Round 5 but both players have been given plenty of time in defence and the middle. Heppell has shown he can win contests so he isnt a Bowden. I still like the look of Conca aswell just think he needs a good pre season after a limited prep with that ankle problem. I'd play him this week no point making him go to Coburg.

Not saying Heppell's a dud (or even worse than Conca), just that he has had an easier entry to footy than Conca has. As always, we'll see how the two compare over the next 2-3 years as they establish themselves.

Ankle is definitely an issue too (admit I forgot about that).

Reckon he'll be back in this week. Most clubs are giving their mids just 1 week off when they are rotating them

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

will certainly be back this week, does anyone have our win loss record in 2010 round 15, interesting tom see difference if any
