Reece Conca - so long and thanks for all the fish

I certainly did. As for his usage, it's generally top shelf and he made a lot of good decisions in tight with the ball against the Lions.
I think he'll enjoy being back on the open spaces of the G this week. Am glad he's being persevered with.
I actually thought he had a better game when i watched the replay that what i did live at the ground . He played a decent game I thought . He still has some ways to go though . He panics a bit when he gets close to goal , I think the fact that he hasn't kicked one yet may be getting to him a little . He also hasn't mastered the technique of not getting caught with the ball or maybe that is more about strength at this point .
He doesn't have the tricks of a Cotchin , the strength and kicking of Martin or the pace of Deledio but what he does he does very efficiently and well . We have a very good well skilled footballer in Conca who I think will slip under the radar a bit because he is not spectacular . Nothing wrong with that .

Same and same. Thought he was very composed with the ball, albeit didn't get big numbers.

Well he did spend three times longer on the ground than Hislop. Seems really harsh to be calling Hislop "Flop" too given how hard he's had to battle to overcome his injuries and have a crack at it.

Agree. I'm not a fan of hislop (mostly because he played some real dumb football when he first started) but you have to give him credit for earning a spot. And in the limited time he was on the ground he did some nice things against the Lions. Agree with the view that he needs to be played on the ball for most of his ground time.

Still have doubts about him but he won't fail for lack of effort.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Conca looked fatigued today, dropped a couple of chest marks, and seem to lack zip. Think he needs a spell.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Needs a rest but he is far and away better then what we have waiting in the wings.

Now I agree.

The ayes have it. The substitution was a give away, I reckon, Oldster.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Rest will do him good. Never used to agree with resting players but now feel if we don;t we will be disadvantaged against other teams that do it.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Certainly agree with the rest idea. He has had a fine debut year but to make sure he doesn't get any injuries just ease him through the rest of the year.
West Coast have taken the conservative approach with Gaff. They are reluctant to put him in seniors due to his light frame.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

So, those advocating that he needed a rest against Melbourne were right ?

Paying all bets now.

Hope he enjoys the week off and charges the batteries.
Conca has had a bright start to his career.

Yep, week off, walk back into the side next week.

It's the smart play. Reece Conca will play a lot of great football for the RFC.

he's borne a burden for a first year much better than most

give Dimma credit, he read the kid well too. Many in the media slammed him for his tactics with Milne, but in hindsight it appears Conca is the type with the nounce to learn from that kind of belting and grow from it. Looks like we have a good kid

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I agree, I think he'll be a very fine player for us.

Hasn't had that oooooh!! moment like Cotch did that first year or the "older than his years" start that Dusty did, but has a lot to work with.

I was going to make a comment that he had a lot of first round draft pick hype to live up to after Cotch and Dusty, but we didn't really hype him up like we did with those two. In reality, he's probably surprised quite a few - especially as a left field selection in the eyes of some.

Should be a quality 10 year midfielder.
