I guess they decided he doesn't need a break yet.

I think he nneds some more time in the middle.Against Pies & Roos he looked more comfortable when given more freedom.Maybe they are trying to get some defense into his game early.

I didn't see too much wrong with his game against Brisbane.

Didn't see too much right about it. IMO he's not having the same impact he was in previous months when he get the ball.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

He has had a very good first year. Drill as much games into him and at the same time teach him the defensive side of the game. Will be a qaulity footballer for us

Perhaps you should review again. Stats are not everything but only the out-and-out midfielders got more disposals sitting 8/22. Twice as many as Webster, Flop, Farmer (almost) and more than Edwards, Newman, Nahas etc. Excluding Newman his ball use is vastly superior to the others.

Agree he struggled in the two games pior but fluctuating form is to be expected of a first year player. However the talk of a rest is nonsense especially if Webster, Nason, Farmer, Flop or similar is to take his spot.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Well he did spend three times longer on the ground than Hislop. Seems really harsh to be calling Hislop "Flop" too given how hard he's had to battle to overcome his injuries and have a crack at it.

Big assumption on the stats, I don't even know what his stats are, as I said, my concern is he wasn't having the same impact with his possessions as he did before.

You have grouped him with farmer, Webberley, Hislop, and Edwards, all of whom are borderline to keep their spot for most punters. Nahas and Newman were much more damaging with the pill than he was

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Conca is going fine. Doesn't need a rest. Ridiculous.

46 J.Webberley 6
16 L.McGuane 5
TEAM TOTAL 331

I pooled together those 'running players’ with same or lower stats rather than Miller or McGone. But these are the blokes who’ll be in if he is rested due to his supposed tiredness.

Don’t recall too many blunders from him. Where are the stat guru’s with efficiency ratings?

Newman is arguably our premier ball user so no debate here… Nahas is not a better user IMO, including the Brisbane game.

Fair enough on Tom's stats, bit hard as a sub but they're the figures at the end of the day. Unfortunately he maintains the “Flop” moniker for the moment. I really hope he makes it, don’t think he will but since his recruitment he has been a Flop.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

You were the one who put Newman up as a comparison of players below his output, not me.

Again, I'm a fan of Conca, but feel he's slid in recent weeks. If he has another ordinary game against the dees, I'd definitely be pushing for Helbig to take his spot assuming he backs up his game from the weekend.

This is all just my opinion as I said though.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

What do you mean "another ordinary game"? Conca was pretty good against Brisbane. Agree the couple weeks before that he was average.

I also immediately excluded him in the next sentence but you ignored that.

I just disagree. Thought he looked less composed with the ball, and wasnt handling the pressure of the contest at the same standard he has set previously.

If you excluded him, why include him in the first place?

Still disagree on Nahas as well. Not a stellar game, but he had several passages of play where he was very damaging.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

To me Conca has become more inside lately. He doesn';t seem to be spreading and receiving as much as he did earlier on. I'm not sure if that's the coaches orders or whether he's just not running off like he used too.

Erm… he was included as someone who got lower numbers (actually got the same 18 each, I saw his 17) which was part A: volume, but excluded in part B: ball use which was your second factor. Pretty straightforward and transparent.

Nahas has been great this season but I would want the ball in Conca's hands over Nahas everyday of the week. Agree to disagree on Brisbane disposal efficieny but reckon most thought he held his own against Brisbane.

I certainly did. As for his usage, it's generally top shelf and he made a lot of good decisions in tight with the ball against the Lions.
I think he'll enjoy being back on the open spaces of the G this week. Am glad he's being persevered with.
