Reece Conca - so long and thanks for all the fish

Lol Grimes last five years 23,25,16,18,19 games.

Lol Conca last five years 18, 6, 6, 3, 19 games.

One’s best is All-Australian good, the others is player 15- 22. A supposed midfielder who has never got it 30 times at AFL level.

That is the point! FFS. Not talking about the last five years for both players, seriously? I'm talking about the FACT that just because a player has a period of being a croc, he will not always be a croc, gettit? Forget subsequent proven ability, Grimes first what? 4 or 5 years, he was a total croc. Plent on here thought he'd never get right. We perservered and he became durable and a superstar. That is the point. Not saying Concs will ever be a superstar, that is MISSING THE POINT, but he has big strengths Concs played this year as one of the toughest players in one of the toughest sides. Form suggests he is no longer a croc, particularly his season this year, his role, his rapid recovery from his injury.

A precise logical debate is too big an ask around here, forget it.

So:

Grimes has been fit for 5 years, hence he is no longer a ‘croc’.

Conca has barely been fit for 4 years, hence he is more likely to be a ‘croc’.

Am I doing this right?

How long would you have us persist with Conca? Let’s give him a 6 year deal, he may kick on by then.

No. But don't let me stop you

why not 8? Great stuff.

Tell you what, let’s get him ahead of Buddy and make it 10. By then he might get 30 touches in a game once or twice.

Re: Reece Conca

Good luck to Reece, four years is too good a deal to knock back. In return the Dockers are going to get a good player, and a quality bloke who has been with a great organisation.
He will give a lot better service both on and off the field than the likes of Colin Sylvia and Harley Bennell.

by the same logic, why sign Grimesy? Some players are crocs early, some are crocs late, some are just crocs.

Know what you're getting at - and it's an interesting theoretical point too.
Yeah there was a time when Grimes looked like he'd never get his body right - just that he was cursed with faulty hamstrings.
I remember in the first year or so of his recovery there were times when he'd really stretch into a sprint and I'd be scared witless that a hammy would twang again.
Fortunately now it's all history.

Maybe Recce will get a similar good few years without problems. For his sake I hope so and it would be nice if he actually got another 100 games with Freo.

Had a feeling Snakey wouldn't take Conca leaving all that well.

Reminds one of the Collins/Leysy fiasco. Hope conca fares better than Andy did.

Re: Reece Conca

Best wishes at Freo Reece. His heart and courage will certainly give a lift to some of the faint hearts there. His presence around the club will be missed.

Agree with the first bit, but the last bit misses the point. He is one of the best 15th to 22nd best players on a list in the league, easily.

Maybe he's actually 14th best then?

So would Taylor Hunt or Richard Lounder.

What do you think his role was this year?

Even this year he missed five weeks of football so he only played 18 of 25 games. To say he is over the croc stage is a huge gamble.

Ive seen many refer to him as helping on the inside but his numbers don’t say that. He played a bit off half back and spent time through the middle. He didn’t do any tagging roles.

He’s relief mid. Not to be confused with Higgins role as comic relief.

Many appear reliefed now he’s gone.

Yep agree. I'm a fan of Conca and after all of his injuries had a solid year this year. You can put money on him having a breakout year year in 2019. Unfortunately we wont see the best of him wearing a tigers jumper.
