Reece Conca - so long and thanks for all the fish

Why mention Simon black? He was universally lauded as a gun, can't remember anyone saying otherwise.

You make some decent points, and Reece is probably better suited to our game plan than miles (despite miles clearly being a better footballer IMO), but save us the words like gun and odious comparisons to great players. Reece is trier, he needs to understand his limitations better. But he has earnt his spot in our system, good luck to him.

What part of 'by any stretch' don't you understand?

Actually scratch that, yeah, Concs is better than Norm Smith, Brownlow and triple premiership player Simon Black. :help

Re: Reece "2018 Whipping Boy" Conca

Conca had a very good game. Won a lot of hard ball. People be cray.

I agree, his tackling and work in heavy traffic is very good. I think people just remember the one or sometimes two howlers he does in a game. The one that comes to mind from Sunday is when he kicked the ball in to the legs of the man on the mark. My son and I just looked at each other and laughed.

When you go to a match looking for a player to make mistakes, that’s all you will see. The Houli thread is a classic for this type of blinkered bagging.

If that was as funny as it is correct Baloo , your post would be straight to the Gold thread

That was a shocker

Personally I am quick to forgive one or two howlers. Even Dusty and Cotch are guilty of those from time to time. What I am more critical of is I reckon he makes bad decisions more often that most of his team mates or doesn't make decisions quick enough and the team looe momentum. I'm happy with his work in tight congested stuff but either he doesn't read the play very well or he tries to gather touches too much. Not sure which one.

Good comment, you convince yourself what you want to see/read

I don't understand putting them together, or indicating that somehow people missed Simon Black's genius when he is widely praised as a gun. And a beautiful user.

Conca is hard at it but has none of the posie/awareness that Black had. Has he earnt his spot - yep. Can he improve - hopefully yes given he is getting a good run of games.

Re: Reece "2018 Whipping Boy" Conca

Don't want to jinx Reece but he has hardly ever strung 8 games in a row together. We are seeing solid performances & deserves his place in the team. Hopefully now he has a decent base behind him can continue to provide good mid & half back depth

Re: Reece "2018 Whipping Boy" Conca

Conca the most tackles for Tige's in 2018 with 45, next best Vlossy & Jack Graham with 43.

Re: Reece "2018 Whipping Boy" Conca

He is busting a gut out there, but his footy nous is average.
He struggles even by hand to hit targets

"Some just don’t seem to be able to actually see the good work he does. I think it’s a bit or bias, and also a bit of Simon Black syndrome, I’m not saying Concs is as good as Black by any stretch, but you’d have to be really watching to appreciate his head-over-the-ball work in the clinches."

I wish he had Simon Black syndrome, he'd be a gun.

You've misunderstood me. I meant simon black syndrome in that a lot of people missed his work. He was at the bottom of packs like Reece. The syndrome applies to the viewer, not the player.

Re: Reece "2018 Whipping Boy" Conca

It intrigues me that every time he has a mark or free the puzzlement and confusion on his face seems to indicate he has never been in that position before. Just amazing, occasionally amusing.

I think your inability to read facial expressions is even more amazing.
