Reece Conca - so long and thanks for all the fish

Smith deserved the nomination, I was surprised it took this long tbh.

Conca's time will come soon enough.

They only give nominations to players in teams that have won that week. That is were the RS is flawed in my opinion. When ever GC win expect to see one of there players nominated.

Given the kids we have introduced over the years, that list is pretty underwhelming. Shows how poor our recruitment/development has been over the years

We also had Rodan, Schulz, Raines & Polo who I counted on their current clubs' tallies.

Roughly 30% have gone to players in losing teams, but this generally happens in the second half of the season as a means of rewarding consistency.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Conca looks a little slow in traffic but he does have the smarts to usually get out of trouble. Been caught holding the ball a number of times because he dives on top of it. I might be alone in thinking that is actually a good thing, its a great sign to see a youngster putting himself on the line just to win the ball.

Disagree. Has shown speed and great awareness in traffic IMO, reckon his ability in traffic is one of his strengths.

Average free against in possession per game; Conca is equal 6th on the list with Morton and Cotchin with 0.7 per game. Top is Nahas (1.4) followed by Connors (1.3), Martin (1.3), Foley (0.9), Rance (0.8 ) . Newman, Houli, Thursfield, Tuck, Deledio, Nason no frees against in possession at all this year.

I think he is good in traffic as well, just looks a little slow to me. Thats normal for a first year player though.

Which is good to hear. I really rate him, but i am not getting carried away just yet.

Interestingly all his 5 frees against in possession have been from his last 3 games. None in the first 4. Might just mean he's growing the confidence to take the game on more.

I remember a couple of those and they weren't caught in traffic situations. One was catching a hospital ball and then set upon given no time to dispose, another was that diving on the ball rule (incorrectly applied I thought -............ as I usually do in matters of the heart)

Agree with this. A few times he's just managed to get the ball away, where in a past era he might've been pinged for holding the ball.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

"looks a little slow" not imo. How often has he been caught holding the ball, not many that I can recall.
Seems to assess his options, make good decisions & dispose the ball pretty well to me.
Leg speed is not always the best indicator of a "fast or slow" player.
EG: Sam Mitchell does not have much in the way of leg speed, but you look at how often he gets the ball & how often he hits a team mate with his disposal.
A quick footy brain can really make up for a slight lack of leg speed.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Slow?

Makes everyone around him look slower.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

he might look slow because he never panics. quick mind.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Excellent link man with wonderful balance, vision and neat skills. Cousins like in the way he wants to get others involved in the play, how he runs on after disposing of the ball and his sheperding. Not a very penetrating kick and excellent over short/mid distances

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

1st year player..7 games in played every game and imporved on the
