Reece Conca - so long and thanks for all the fish

I think he'll be a good player though. He moves well and has a nice level of skill. Get him out of the backline now though. He's a natural midfielder so get him on a wing or a HFF at least.

Agree with you Riddles - lets have a look at Conca where he can be even more creative and attacking with possibility of doing damage on the scoreboard. He is good at delivery and that is why the coaching staff want him on the HBF but move him into a more attacking closer to goal role.

will be a player. as for heppell, we have a back flanker that will be just as good in Batchelor.

Good call Horatio; agree on both counts. Really like the look of Batchelor. Seems very composed for a young player and looks like he knows what to do with the pill. A good footy brain which isn't always an abundant commodity at RFC.

Heppell will be a midfielder. Played midfield in younger days but played back in his last TAC year due to coming back from injury. Batchelor will not be as good as Heppell.

Yeah and Astbury won't be as good as Morabito. ::)

I didn't bring it up. Someone said Batchelor will be as good as Heppell. I think he won't and gave my reasons. Relevance of Atbury and Morabito? I don't get it.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Does anyone actually think he's 185cm like his profile suggests? Looks real small to me, Matt White small.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Other profiles have said 182 cm, think that's more accurate

And that he has that hunched over running style wouldn't help perceptions either. C'mon Dimma, let him show his offensive side on Friday.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

It was brought up on a thread on bigfooty about playing him in defence may be hurting his confidence. Anyone think a short term move up the ground might help him a bit?

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

i think he's got the temperament to keep doing the job without hurting his confidence. i'm sure if the club thinks he's being affected by playing in defence they would do something about it. not too worried about it right now.

I have a different view, I think the back line is the best place to learn his trade before he is fit enough and knows the game plan well enough to move into the midfield.

As long as you have a good supportive coach, which Beavis is, it's a great opportunity to learn off good quality opponents.

Didn't he start late in the preseason because of some injury as well ? His education as a player must include how to defend , its just part of that process . Will be a midfielder soon enough , he has the tools just not the tank .

Being in the backline he'll get ample opportunities to get his hands on the ball....especially this week (god-damn-it).

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I wonder what people thought when Malthouse threw Daisy into the backline a couple years back. ;)

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

My guess is that the club wants a couple of midfielders that rest in the forward line - looks to be Cotch and Dusty and possibly a couple that rest (probably not the right turn of phrase - more like are able to play in defence) and these two are Lids and Conca. The club is building a solid core of midfielders and it makes sense to me that they want the players to be able to slot into defined roles outside of the midfield.

If Reece plays the majority of the year in defence and learns that craft well while at the same time learning the game plan, building his tank and developing his game then it can only lead to a more rounded player who will add more value to the team over time.

Good post Rob. Thought provoking. Makes sense and is good forward planning.
