I'd say there is a chance he heard that statement from Beavis in the after match address....

I did consider that possibility mate but thought it would make a better story if I didn't mention it. But someone had to be captain Buzzkill ;D

Chimp porn.

Lots of bestiality occurring on this website ;)

what's martin's nickname?? just dusty? or is it aston?

would be great if an animal nickname could be found for him also to go with squirrel and chimp.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Dusty would be Rhino. Nothing cute or cuddly about him.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I am happy to see a rfc 1st round midfielder not having to play midfield in his first year. No such luxury for cotch or dusty.

And our defence will benefit in 2011 as a result.

Just let him chase the oppositions best small forward all year and let him learn the game at a steady rate.

Just watching the game again and slowing it down and rewatching patches that Conca was involved with.

Didn't notice last night but below his kneees he is one touch. And another thing, I don't think he moves at full pace, just the right pace to collect the ball and find space. Then once the gap is found, zips through.

Really one to watch.

I think the commentators had trouble recognising him because some of his work was exemplary without being noted.
I think re some of the one touch stuff you're referring to his one handed scoop at deep BP without breaking stride was another effortless moment.
He's got some rare skills. I too am exited to see where he takes it.

Yeah, the one headed scoop was elite. Running towards the boundary, one handed scoop in the right hand, left turn and he was away coming out of the 50. It was all in about three seconds but in his first game it was a great sign.

It's a good thing that he isn't being put on media street yet. Long way to go but a great start.

Looks like with three picks, Francis Jackson has earnt himself some serious gold stars.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Was suprised that the media made no mention of his classy debut. as mentioned above he did some quality one handed pickups with no awkwardness at all - he just looks made for footy, premiership footy. Also did well serval times to get through heavy traffic.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

proper footballer. played on gartlett who has had a big preseason and kept him quite. also provided good rebound. he has all the tools but the thing I really like in his game is that he's always moving and providing options. isn't afraid and knows when to leave his man to provide support. smart footballer with his taps to advantage also.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

If he plays like that and improves throughout the season should do well in the rising star voting.

Thats good point Scooper, a lot of people were questioning the wisdom of some of these pics, and they certainly look to have been well justified at this stage, without getting too far ahead of ourselves.

Conca looks very much at home out there on the big stage. Maybe lids should have a chat to him and get a bit of advice.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

And to think we rated Conca highly for his leadershop and mental strength as much as his onfield skills.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I think he may fly under the radar a bit as he is not as noticeable as Dusty fending off three players with the single raise of an eyebrow

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Do you guys think that he might be a chance of getting Milne next week?

Wouldn't surprise me. I think he could do it.

So do I. Has plenty of 'footy smarts' about him and be a great learning experience.

Yeah, I was quite surprised how well he handled a nippy, skilled little forward like Garlett who I rate very highly.

Maybe that's his go all year. Bring him in off HB on the smalls, don't have to throw to the wolves in the midfield like previous top picks with an underdeveloped body.

Spot on you guys. Conca can easily be our 'Scully' or "Cousins' type. He is just going to go about the business of racking up effective touches, and consistently being in the right spot at the right time. Does all the little things that will make him elite in years to come. The clean skills, particularly below the knees, shepherding team mates, correct decisions in the heat of battle, and most of will be the type to improve till the day he retires because he doesn't believe the hype, just does what is required of him.
