Reece Conca - so long and thanks for all the fish

i may or may not be thinking of the same piece of play but it seriously impressed me.

had the ball under pressure amongst 4 blues just forward of half back but dodged and weaved and thought his way out of the traffic and delivered to a teammate.

thought conca had some early nerves with his first couple of kicks but after that play i was certain we had a star in the making.
I think thats the one peggles. Was in between our defensive 50 and the centre circle. He weaved around a few Blues players and gave off a handball to Deledios advantage. We ended up kicking a goal from that play.

Another one was deep in our back line which he turned 2 Blues players inside out and then dished off a handball to McGuane looking for the 1 - 2. Unfortunatley McGuane fumbled the ball and we failed to clear it.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Excellent debut. Very much a natural footballer isn't he.

Really happy with the pick. That pick 6 was a bit of a trap last year, could easily been lulled into someone with deficiencies that you dont want with a pick that high.

And Heppell's deficiencies are? :p

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Just leysy's opinion but meant more Polec & Caddy. Think they have some chinks in there game that could hinder how good they can be for that pick.

I'm surprised Polec is not getting a game in round 1 given how poor Brisbane's midfield is. Opting for other kids. Looked okay early in NAB Cup, think he must've trailed off.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Conca is going to break the Curse of Pick 6

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Just got home from the game, the one huge positive was this boy. From where I stood ( just beside the MCC ) hhis kid had it all, pace, skill, hardness and most importantly a desire to compete. Already looking like a favourite of mine.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Even did a few of the kickouts during the game.

Not many 1st gamers get that opportunity.

Sounds like you quoted dimma :p

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Did he say that? Great minds! You can just see it in the way he attacks the footy & doesn't give up.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Very happy! Big slap on the back to our recruiters - and also to the development team for whatever they did to the new boys over the summer!

Squirrel love.

Seriously this kid moves beautifully across the turf.
There was a clearance in the third that Deledio was credited with but was made by Conca as he scythed through the pack that made me sit up.
I think he's gonna be a gun.

Squirrel love.
Chimp love.
Chimp porn.

Lots of bestiality occurring on this website ;)

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Just watching the game again and slowing it down and rewatching patches that Conca was involved with.

Didn't notice last night but below his kneees he is one touch. And another thing, I don't think he moves at full pace, just the right pace to collect the ball and find space. Then once the gap is found, zips through.

Really one to watch.

It's only an interview, but gee it's impressive when a kid after his first game can admit that they went into their shell after a few bad disposals but worked their way out of it. Some players play their whole career without that self awareness.

I'd say there is a chance he heard that statement from Beavis in the after match address....
