Sometimes you see a player for the first time and you just know he will be very good .

Unfortunately a lot of people thought that about Polo's debut :hihi

Thats good point Scooper, a lot of people were questioning the wisdom of some of these pics, and they certainly look to have been well justified at this stage, without getting too far ahead of ourselves.

Conca looks very much at home out there on the big stage. Maybe lids should have a chat to him and get a bit of advice.

Yes, Conca debut was very impressive.

He looks a much more skilled and competent player than he showed during last year championships.

Although I only saw the 2nd half, his effective kicking under pressure was a highlight.

At this point, his early drafting looks justified. Like all, I hope he continues to improve.

Great to see severe draft criticism turn positive. Time will tell if it is justified of course, but certainly a big positive note of support which can be very motivating for a young player and keen forum participants. Well noted Phantom, we need more of it.

:clap

And Derickyx will be more than handy too- sooner rather than later I hope!!

it's good not having to wait three seasons to find out your first round draft can't play footy.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Dont worry about homesick Melbourne is much better than Perth for a footballer also in his interview he stated he is looking forward to looking back in 10 years with Heli and Batch on this big occasion whilst still at the Tigers :clap

Good head on his shoulders too then.

Will never see City Oval Coburg
I can confirm that young Reece was sitting in the Coburg stands watching the Coburg seniors doing their thing this afternoon.
He did look a bit sore, but I would expect nothing less, given it was his first game in the seniors.
Wrong again, CC Tiger.

Looks like with three picks, Francis Jackson has earnt himself some serious gold stars.

Its early days yet but it sure does look like a good draft for Francis.

I think with Batchelors selection you can see why Heppell was overlooked. We have picked a a quality mid in Conca and a HB in Batchelor. Really good drafting IMO.
Batchelor and Helbig will have genuine size in a couple of years too, and all three are genuine footballers.

The last two drafts have been first rate. On Friday we had Martin and Astbury from 2009 and Conca, Batchelor and Helbig from 2010. Francis should be proud of his efforts I reckon.

Wholeheartedly agree.
Conca and batch were very good for first games. Showed skill and composure. Very long careers for both I would think.I was also very impressed with Helbig. Very hard at the ball, and by all accounts can kick very well. A replacement for Tuck I think.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

The thing with all of our boys is that they are highly skilled smart footballers.

Helbig and Batchelor can kick on both left and right and you wouldn't be able to tell which was one their natural foot.

Thought Helbig's disposal was average last night but not thinking much of it due to being his first game and he had opponents down his throat for the most part.

i reckon Polo can play

Polo has courage and he has proven that over the past years, however, his kicking and his playing on that causes his turnovers. That will never be cured, good luck to him if he is going to make it, it will help that his current side is a top four within the competition.

Helbig had 70% efficiency for the night, I agree he shanked a couple but so did the other debutants.

Gee we have some good talent coming through though, I'm very excited to see what the likes of Macdonald, Jakobi, Contin and Helbig can produce through the year, am hoping they all get some game time, and it has me very excited. :clap
